Don't have an Airnav, and I don't know that box so I can't specifically comment about it. I do have an SBS-1e, and like it alot. It's expensive (~GBP500), and I don't get the use now that I used to, mainly because there are so many online trackers for quick lookups, but it's always in the laptop bag, and can be set up very quickly. I've used it when travelling (in Europe), and it snagged some nice contacts. I used to have it connected to the laptop logging away all day while at work, but I don't do that anymore, so it's more of an occasional use tool now. I'm debating with myself whether to do a fixed setup at home with Internet access so I can log onto it, but while that would be nice, it completely does away with the portability aspect which is what I use it for mostly now ... if I have Internet access, why log onto my unit at home, when I can log onto one of the sites and get wider coverage ??

Something which I've been looking at recently are the enormous number of software addons which can be bought or downloaded for free, rangeing from mapsets and aerodrome overlays to GoogleEarth tie ins. There's alot of stuff out there, and many more ideas to come to make these type of boxes even more useful.

It's very useful if you're sitting beside an airport, and opens a new dimension from just having the airband radio. The database feature is very good. It's cool to be in the middle of nowhere and be able to identify overflights.

All in all, I think that paying out over GBP500 was alot of money, and if the current unit was broken and I had to pay it again for another box, I probably wouldn't ... maybe, but then again ...

It's a great tool, but if the money is hard earned, think what you want from it before shelling out.

Lastly, I'm not sure about CQ. I've never bought anything from them, but have been in the shop a few times and didn't feel at all comfortable. Maybe it's their location close to the courts, or just the times that I was there, but they seem to have an "interesting" clientel, who seem to be mostly interested in scanners that can receive the Fixed/Mobile Govenment Services allocations. It's been many years since I last visited, so maybe things are different now. I bought my unit online.
