I've got no experience with using a flashgun at all.

Given the price, would this be a good start?

Is it safe to use? As in, no problems between the circuitry?

Anyone have any better suggestions given my budget constraint at 100 euro?

Anyone have any experience with this flash, brand?

    Thank you so much.

i have the next model up and its fine

not as strong as my 580 flash but works ok

the one thing to be aware of with these is they wont work with cheap triggers out of the box they need a little modification to make them work

    So what does that mean?

    So what does that mean?

I think what Steve is probably referring to is if you plan to use the strobe off camera and buy some of the cheap wireless triggers from ebay to control it, that it probably won't work (without modification of one or the other). There can be very mixed responses (some really good, and some poor) with regards to the kind of cheap eBay triggers that you can buy (sub €20 perhaps).

I'd also guess if you used proper branded triggers then you won't have the problem? (Steve?)

But from what Steve is saying, working attached to the camera should be fine.

If you're looking for a cheap way to get into flash, try the Yongnuo YN-560 -67 quid is practically giving them away!

-brief review and a good list of pros/cons here

    sorry

yes attached to the camera, will be no issues

but if you want to use with triggers off camera

the nissin flashes dont use the centre pin to trigger like most flashes do so most triggers will not fire them

what i did was add a cable wired across the test button of the flash which i can plug into a trigger and it works great

So does everyone think this is a good start for playing around with an external flash?

Also, what kind of a jump can I expect in terms of performance compared to the built in flash unit?

I guess, obviously, I really just don't want to waste my money and be completely informed.
