Any reason you want to avoid the M50?

If it's to avoid the toll, you can get off at the N3-there are several ways to reach Leixlip from there.

The best way I found was basically as the crow flies.

Take the R152 out of Drogheda, past Duleek and join the N2 southbound at Cushinstown crossroads at the petrol station.

About 2Km later you come to traffic lights, take a right onto R155 heading for Rathoath. In Rathoath stay on the R155 heading for Dunboyne.

You will come to the old N3, head left to Dunboyne. Then you can either take the R157 towards Maynooth or R149 towards Confey/Leixlip.

I used to do this journey in 40-50min to Celbridge.

FYI, if you move to a 'smart' meter electricity plan, you CAN'T move back to a non-smart plan.

You don't have to take a 'smart' meter if you don't want one, opt-out is available.

Buy drinks in 3L or bigger plastic bottles or glass bottles or cartons to avoid the DRS fee.

Last Autumn/Winter, I used to get from Balbriggan to Maynooth in 45 mins via the M50, leaving the brig at 5:30, I'd imagine the journey time are similar this year.

Before the freefloe M50-N4 and Newcastle junc., when heading to Galway, I used to go by Rathoath; Maynooth, D15, etc and they were all slower than the M50.

I'd imagine they were considerably less safe than Motorway also.

Pay the westlink toll and get there safely and on time is my advice. the M1 toll depends on the part of Drogheda you're in.

No, would have been a bit out of the way for me. Doing that you'd get snarled up in the traffic on the N2. It depends where you're going really. Lucan and Clonsilla can be busy enough too with all the people avoiding the toll.

The roads are fine, like any roads they require a certain degree of cop on. Sticking to the M1/M50/N4/M4 would be ok for the odd trip, but for regular commuting you're putting a lot of extra mileage and toll charges on yourself. It's all starts to add up.
