Just bought a Samsung BD-C8200M blu-ray with integrated digital tuner. I'm on basic cable from UPC and had hoped just to use the built in HDD to record/pause live TV as I did with my old Sony DVD/HDD combo. However the unit detects 100+ channels which are the Digital channels from UPC and unsurprisingly these are scrambled save for RTE etc which I assume are part of the free to air irish offering. I had assumed it would have an analogue tuner as well but obviously not?
I'd rather not go down the upc digital route because that would necessitate an ugly, plastic UPC box which would bypass the features on my samsung, I notice it has a common interface slot as well, I take it UPC don't offer anything in this regard?
Would like to hold on to this unit if I can but may have to sell if I'm stuck.

"Invite a whole new world of enhanced entertainment into your home with DVB-T2 Broadcasting. Access new free-to-air HD channels with no monthly subscription. This ultra-convenient digital tuner brings the very best channels that you can watch, pause and even record onto the spacious Hard Disk Drive"

this box only has a DVB-T2 tuner. You will need to hook it up to an aerial to get free to air digital rte, If you are in the right location and have correct aerial you may also get uk freeview channels.

This box will not work with upc.

For a box or TV to work with digital anything it has to have DVB and then -T (for aerials), -C (for cable) and now -S2(for satellite). They only do that type of decoding. If you have a telly that says DVB-T DVB-C as some have then they do both aerial and cable. or DVB-T DVB-S2 it then does satellite and aerial. Rare to see DVB-T DVB-S2 DVB-C TVs or boxes but I suppose they can be found where it does all 3. DVB-T is moving into DVB-T2 (2nd generation).

Analogue cable just used the cable going into the TV with right connector like aerial.
