Works out at €285 (or thereabouts) delivered.. great value considering you get a 6 cell battery with it!

Available in plenty of colours too!

It's €65 less than the identical model on Dell.com, you get your choice of a couple of colours, and you get a 250GB HDD (as opposed to a 160GB HDD).

I want something like this except maybe with 2GB of RAM. Where's the cheapest place to buy a notebook online?

There's no one place to be honest.. shop around with Amazon, Dabs, Elara etc.

You can always upgrade the RAM on this but it does involve taking the chassis apart, lifting out the keyboard etc.

You'll be fairly hard pushed to find a netbook with 2GB's of RAM installed as standard. Put in a post on the Requests forum if you want any more information or links though.

Yeah, I had heard its mostly 1GB the notebooks came with. I might take a chance on this one. How long this the 6 cell battery last for? I read on dell's website up to 9.5 hours!

Hmmm. That looks interesting. I had been considering this:

    http://www.dabs4work.ie/products/toshiba-t110-13h-cel-m-743-2gb-250-w7p-6P2Q.html

but the dell is a fair bit cheaper. Even though the Toshiba has it's advantages...

It would depend on usage.. don't know how serious I'd take 9.5 hours unless you simply had it on standby on the lowest brightness with feck all running.

But you'd easily get 4 - 5 hours heavy usage out of it initially.

Funny you bring that up.. girlfriend was looking at that too!

So I put this thread over on the Laptops forum.. she's went with the netbook now over it.

13" laptops are the way of the future.. they're the perfect size but they're still quite expensive (especially for some of the more reliable models).

Middle of next week I'd say..

.. from what I've ordered from Expansys before, it normally took about 3 working days.

Ordered a red one, hopefully I'll have no problems. Thanks for the info! :)

Ended up buying this one for around €200 delivered:

I didn't need anything too powerful and the reviews were good so I thought I'd give it a go.

Plus 1 for the acer, picked it up yesterday for 219, was going to get it on sunday at 229, was very pleased to get another 10 off when i went back up.

Not bad to use and the android feature is very good, loads in 13 seconds, handy for surfing the net.

Hmmmm the acer or the Dell....

I see they have same ram and specs, so im wondering what use would these be for like photoshop, microsoft office etc for college? Could you use like itunes and microsoft office at the same time? Has anyone got this yet?

EDIT: To the people who bought the acer, what is the model number as I want to look up some video reviews. thanks

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 915 ✭✭✭geecee

They don't have the same specs...

The acer has an older N270 processor

The Dell has an N450 which is a pineview and teh newest Atom processor

Battery will last longer on the N450 as its a low voltage processor

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 991 ✭✭✭Digitalism

Oh right I was just going by the post above there. Is it worth paying the extra €50 abouts for the dell or will the extra processor make much of a difference. Is the ram upgradable on the dell and acer? The extra 90gb in the HD doesnt matter much to me.

Anyone know the model of the acer?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,099 ✭✭✭Dean820

My Dell arrived today, very happy with it so far. Smaller than I expected and the buttons are different from what I'm used to but its grand.

My asus arrived today too. Looks great, but AC power isn't working :( Maybe I should have stuck with the DELL...

Just ordered an Acer there, should be handy around college since lugging around a 17" monster isn't a pleasant experience.

Christ that powercity website is horrible and amateurish though!

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 991 ✭✭✭Digitalism

Can anyone take a picture or 2 of the acer netbook for me or tell me what model it is please as the power city website is horrible.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 554 ✭✭✭PCDub

Powercity site is a bit dated alright but it works. The model is listed on the site (LU.S670D.063). Got mine today and its a little beauty, especially with 2gb ram.

    Yep, girlfriend got hers yesterday.

Took off all the Dell muck, ran HijackThis to remove unwanted startup entries and optimized for performances (switching off drop shadows / gimmicky stuff like that).

    It flies now!

Add / Remove Prgorams and get rid of anything that doesn't look important (anything Dell-related particularly).

Got the acer today, Nice little machine but there's an awful amount of crap installed on it. Dosen't come with an OS disc either which is a right pain. Chances of finding an OEM Acer Windows 7 Starter disc.. very slim :(

Ah well, may switch to Ubuntu Netbook remix anyway.

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 1,855 ✭✭✭Charlie Haughy

Basquille, does the dell come with the OS disc? And whats the machine like? Do you think it would be able to run itunes, MSN, anti virus, and firefox at the same time?

Right folks, I need to get the lady a new lapptop for her birthday and since you guys know mre than I do what could you reccomend for around the 300-350 mark.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,500 ✭✭✭✭cson

They're beginning to piss me off now with the repeated security checks.

What the **** is the issue exactly? They've received cleared payment at this stage and even if I was pulling a fast one they can issue a chargeback on the cc.

    It's ridiculous tbh.

    Hi Redisle,
Could you recommend me which of the installed crap is safe to remove. And are there any other processes i should use other that straightforward uninstall?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,849 ✭✭✭Redisle

You can pretty much uninstall everything with Acer before it, except I left the Power management one and the webcam one. I also got rid of all the msft office crap, loads of stupid games, McAffee (defo remove this), some Norton junk. Basically everything except the driver software.

    This should help -- http://www.pcdecrapifier.com/download
It automatically runs all the uninstallers for you and makes things much faster, it then allows you to select all the other things you want to uninstall and runs the uninstallers one after the other.

What are people experiences with expansys? If you have problems is it hard to get it fixed under the warranty?

Most colours gone now apart from purple and pink :/

Might have to get the purple...

Any other netbook offers going like the powercity one which is now gone back up to like €270 :(
