    Hi all,
Just wondering if there's any worthwhile career guidance given to students in their final year in DIT...
    Thanks

My personal experience (in Bolton St) was that there were guidance sessions for the class which could only be described as pathetic. She was basically ignorant of what our skills were, what our qualification was and was our accreditation route was. We requested a session with the professional body which she did organise and which did clear up a lot of questions but I was appalled at the low level of knowledge that the person paid to know about how to progress our careers was. Everything she told us was common sense and generalities. I could have given a better talk.

Saying that, I imagine it is hit and miss for different courses and fields, I would hate to think that the entire college has the same experience as my class.

I have friends who went to the guidance people with CVs and found those one on one sessions useful.

I found the careers guidance one on one session I did in Aungier St (I'm in Kevin St) very good. Gave me loads of information. In the end, I decided to stay on and do the higher degree, so will be utilising their services again this year!
Oh, and try and go before Christmas, it gets booked up afterwards...

Really depends on what faculty your in. I was in Aungier St and went to Laurence Whiston a few times and he was excellent, have heard Bolton St is very poor tho.
