I'm confused by this one, for a good while now I've ordered MP3 players and other electronic items from Amazon without any problems.
I've just added another MP3 to my basket and at the checkout it tells me it can't deliver to my address (same address as before).
    I'm buying direct from Amazon.

Any ideas folks? I'm baffled as to why this sort of restriction is back in place

Tried adding a random MP3 player to my basket and checking out... got the same as you 'can't ship to your address'.

Then I added an external hard drive that I had bought a few weeks back... no problem.

    Not sure what's up.

phew, not just me then, I'm not going mad!
I'll leave it and try again tomorrow :)

Thought this might have been a marketplace selller you were buying from...configured a sansa clip that's fulfilled by amazon, went through checkout, no dice. Odd that the Where we deliver page still says that electronics will despatch to all EU countries including RoI.

I hope we're not back to the bad old days of books and discs only, and some crap about WEEE charges.

  • Having the same problem with a sansa clip. I ordered a Roberts 83i only last week no problem.

I think it's more to do with pricing. It just so happens it's a great price and they won't ship. I selected an iPod Touch and they'll ship that no bother, both from Amazon and not a Marketplace seller.

It's pretty annoying, I'll just look elsewhere.

    Other Delivery Restrictions

Additional delivery restrictions may apply to specific items or sub-categories due to the specific nature of some products. These products might be restricted to delivery to the UK or mainland UK only (excludes Northern Ireland and the UK islands) or to only some other countries. For example large items, such as any item that is 30 kg or heavier, e.g. a widescreen television (larger than 26") or some fitness equipment can only be delivered to mainland UK. The following items can only be delivered to addresses within the UK - children's clothing, children's shoes, children's car seats, blank media items, such as CDs, DVDs and MP3 players, safety equipment and medicines. Light bulbs and TV equipment cannot be shipped to Ireland (Republic of). Please note that unless otherwise specified electrical equipment and appliances sold on Amazon.co.uk are sold with electrical plugs compatible with United Kingdom electrical outlets only. You will need a plug adapter if you wish to use these products outside the United Kingdom.

I think by law an mp3 player must be treated like blank media, like blank cds. I think some authority here puts a levy on blank cds or something -like they presume everybody is a pirate and in effect sort of fine everybody before they even do the crime (or not).

hmm, how come I can order a Sony MP3 payer or a iPod Touch and they will ship that? Sure I've purchased a Sony MP3 player from them 3 months ago and it was delivered no problem.

Not sure, they might not fall under the same rules as blank media. e.g. if they have software incorporated on them or something, like I know sony have some file protection thing on players, and apple have itunes -so they might have some restriction or supposed attempt at protection which bypasses the law. -while other players you just drag and drop files onto them and play away.

You can read more here, though it says Ireland does not have one, they might be wrong but I think its a similar idea.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Private_copying_levy

    In the US
Thanks to a precedent established in a 1998 lawsuit involving the Rio PMP300 player, MP3 players are deemed "computer peripherals" and are not subject to a royalty of this type in the U.S.

They wouldn't ship an mp3 mixer to me a few weeks back ,so I emailed them.

I told them that I didn't see how it could be affected by any regulations etc.

About a week later they emailed me back and said that the items are now available to purchase ,the whole section of these mixers where available from then on.

I think they throw blanket restrictions ,without really looking into it properly.
It's worth asking them about it ,if you really wanted the goods.

Used them before to get a laptop but they won't ship one to Ireland now. This is Amazon.co.uk itself as the seller.

I didn't bother buying one after all ,probably thanks to the delay with amazon:D

The first message I sent got the usual response ,but I replied specifically asking them for a reason for not shipping.

It did take them about a week to resolve it ,but they let me know every couple of days that they were looking into it for me.

Found the email I got ,

"Firstly, please accept our sincere apologise for the delay in responding to your e-mail message. Please be assured that all of us here are working very hard to provide a thorough, personal reply to each of our customers as quickly as possible.

This is the follow up email in regards to your enquiry about the item "Hercules DJ Control MP3 E2 PC/Mac Virtual DJ 4780583".

We have been contacted by our appropriate department and they have confirmed that the issue unable to place an order for the item "Hercules DJ Control MP3 E2 PC/Mac Virtual DJ 4780583" has now been resolved. If you try again, you should be able to place an order for the item and get it delivered to Ireland without encountering further problems.

Again, I apologise for all the inconvenience this matter has caused to you and would like to express our gratitude for the patience you have displayed thus far."

This above item is the only one I checked and it's from a third party seller. I don't know of any third party sellers who deliver to ireland through amazon.

    They never did.
