Iphone 3gs Contract

I am not sure if this is the right place to post, anyway can anybody tell me can I just up and leave my 18 month contract with O2? as I plan on switching to 3Ireland when upgrading to the Iphone 4. By the way do people recommend 3Ireland? There price plans suit me better and would see myself saving a few quid.
