I go to a Beauticians and I am almost sure they double dip the spatula, is there anything wrong with this, is it just a hygenie issue or does it affect the wax they remove from you?

beauticians are of the opinion that double dipping is unhygienic especially as the spatula sometimes goes in quite intimate places.

Thanks, I guess I wondered did it affect the hairs coming off but sure isn't it the stripe that pulls it off!!

the problem with double dipping is that if little spots of blood appear when you are waxed this can go back into the pot along with god knows what else for the next victim. Its a practice that should defo be outlawed or at least people should educate themselves on it and choose to go to a place that uses single dip spatulas.

My beautican's use the double dip but then throw the spatulas away, she might use a few spatulas on leg (very hairy) but never one that a previous client has used.

Yeah, but is she using the same pot of wax for multiple clients? That's more what I'd worry about, not that she used the same spatula (it's just common sense to use a different one for at least each client).

oh didn't think of it like that - must double check the next time I'm in as to what they do - thanks for the advice.

unless they use a new stick every time they stick it into the wax they are putting you at risk.

I'd imagine those double dipping are using the same pot of wax for other clients ... I mean if they can't use a new stick each time when they come by the box load for feck all, I doubt they are gonna throw away a pot of wax (that would cost way more than the sticks) and crack open a new one for each client.

Agree with ams tho def post it on the beaut.ie

The salon I go to is Waxperts in Dun Laoghaire. They never, ever double dip, wear gloves and keep the salon spotless.

You know, the stuff you'd expect from a salon but don't always get

I've had some really awful waxing experiences in the past including bleeding, bruising, and snotty receptionists who seem to think booking you an appointment is doing you the biggest favor in the world  not all from the same place either!

    HI,

the salon I use does double dip and I know for hygenie reasons I should move to another salon but the beautician i go to is really nice and I guess when your getting your bikini line done it helps that I don't feel embarrassed around her. The wax they use for bikini, underarm is the peel off wax - only use stripes on my legs.

I go to Waxperts as well. I've never been in such a hygienic salon. Yet it's a really relaxing atmosphere there. <3 it.

I'd never to go to a salon that double-dipped. Ugh!

The salon I used to go to double dipped. I never even thought twice about it at the time, wouldn't go near it now though. I really don't trust anywhere these days, I don't think many places follow the rules and take them seriously.

The pot of wax is not heated hot enough to kill all the bacteria/viruses etc.

I'm pretty sure the last place I went to double dipped, I think I'll try waxperts...
