Haunted House Near Carroll's Cross, Co Waterford

I have always wondered about this strange house, and if ever I have gotten bad 'vibes' off a place, it is this from old house on the N25 from Waterford to Dungarvan, near Kilmeaden.
Up until yesterday, I believed the cause of the haunting was a girl who was killed while cycling soon after she left the house, on the way to see her boyfriend, but passing the house with my father yesterday, he said that much more sinister things had happened there in the form of ouija boards, satan worship and so forth.

So does anyone know more about this house and it's history? I heard that many people have tried to stay there, but none have been able to, and that one ended up in an asylum as a result of staying there.

Any information about the house would be appreciated,
    Brian

Unfortunately not. I have tried every combination of words I can think of, but without success. I guess I could take a picture of it tomorrow, but there's no way my mom/brother/whoever will stop there. Must get that full driving license soon. :o

Thanks. My brother and I were looking at that thread last night, after discussing the paranormal on the way home from the city.

Not much information on the house in that thread; this was the most helpful post:
Me and a few friends went cycling one day looking for that house.Went in to a few pubs on the way out and were told stories about it and other stories.Apparently there were men hung in the forest across from the long hall pub? We got to haughtons pub(scarey place)and gave up but planned on going further the next time we go. We had all the "interviews" in pubs on video but i lost them all when i bought my new hard drive :( anyone ever hear of the ghosts that haunt the manor by larchville or the convent?

I wonder what pubs are nearest to the haunted house? I could definitely ask there. Very few people in Dungarvan would know I'm sure (hometown). :/

I am afriad I would be of now help there, I am not even from Waterford, I just love the stories of the places, plus we might take a trip on Sunday to see if we could find the house...

I am sure someone in one of the pubs would know the story, you should bring something along to record like the last bunch tried to do

Yeah, that would be a good idea. I'm not sure if they'd trust some teenager they never met with an old Kodak recorder, but it would be worth a try. I'm fascinated by the paranormal, and want resources to be available for other people in the future. They can decide if the hauntings are true or not themselves.

Thanks very much. Yep guys, this is definitely it, no doubt about it. Here's one of Tragamin's photos of the house that has unnerved many generations in my family:

Always - it's one of those things you just remember always being around, the story of that house being haunted. Even if I hadn't heard any stories about the place, it would still creep me out I think every time I went to Waterford City.

Hope this is right right; its on the Dungarvan side of Kilmeaden, and on the Waterford side of the turn-off to Portlaw and Newtown/Kilmacthomas at Carrolls Cross, just past the old pub and before the quarry before you come to Haughtons.

Ok I know this thread is a bit old but its been fascinating me all night. I live not too far from the house and all my years of passing it I never knew it was meant to be haunted, tbh I wouldn't even notice it most of the time. Think I'll go for a look tomorrow and might even go down to Haughtons for a few pints and ask some of the lads about it. Most of the lads down there would know the history of the area so such should hopefully get some info from them

Did you go take a look at the place then, anything to report...

was just out there in the lashin rain. light on in there downstairs. and i found the earlier mentioned videos, nobody said anything about the house in em tho, just the forest

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 694 ✭✭✭Tragamin2k2

does anybody know if anyone is living there? or minding it or anything? because we were out there again tonight and there was curtains opening and closing. no lights on only the small one downstairs. latest ive heard is that theres a poltergeist there. and anyone that tried to live there moved out after a week or 2

ever think of knocking on the door?

Chances are if theres lights on (ie the place has electricity) and curtains are being opened and closed that people are living there. I really cant see how one can make the jump that its a poltergiest on so little information.

If you look at my earlier pictures theres actually a picture of one of the lads knockin on the door...

The light thats on is like a desk lamp or something not bedroom lights or anything. Always always on.

and so you're telling me that because no-one answered the place is haunted? Seriously - where's the rational thought?

If an old person lived there they would be unlikely to answer the door to a group of lads taking photos of their rural house perhaps?

lol when did i say that?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,748 ✭✭✭✭maccored

im just trying to work it out. the theory seems to be the place is haunted as no-one answered the door and the lights are on - well thats what Ive gleaned so far from this thread.

Are there any roadways from the house? Is it easily accessible? Are the curtains dirty?

If there's not someone living there, then perhaps someone is popping in every so often to switch on lights, etc., so as to give the impression that someone lives there (to deter burglars for example). We've done that on occassion for our next door neighbour's house. If I owned a house that I wasn't living in, then I'd probably do it fairly regularly (assuming it wasn't too inconvenient to do so).

Can anyone tell me the name of the owners of this house? Has anyone got any other stories about the house??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,151 ✭✭✭Straight Talker

My mother told me the story of that house. The last family that lived there moved out 40 years ago because something weird was going on there. Then some locals decided to spend the night there to check if it was haunted and they all ran out after an hour!

i was a student down in waterford many years ago and used to pass it regular, never found it that creepy to be honest.
Are you sure that was a light on in the back and not the flash of the camera on the window?

Sorry, not getting at you, it's just that there is a lot of talk about what is just a house, nothing else. Everything is just, he said, she said, there is no foundation to any of it.

Now if there is any house that is actually haunted I would love to hear about it.

really old thread to be bumping but after almost 13 years since the last post re this ‘creepy gaff’, looks like someone has decided to refurbish it…..scaffolding around it lately and looks like they put on a rear extension and also in process of re-roofing / slating the front…?
