Buying a Laptop in Asia

    Hi,

    I'm currently traveling in Asia and am heading onto Australia to live before returning home. I have 500euro put aside for a new laptop and was wondering would I be better of buying in Malaysia, Singapore or waiting until Australia??

    Any ideas on what models to look for? I'm one of those people who can't stand waiting for a page to load for ages! Hope that helps

    Big issue wirh buying abroad is the warrenty. Most will offer a one year international travel warrenty...not the same as a full warrenty in your country. Means you would have toi send it back to asia to get fixed etc.

    The OS will also be likely to be in foreign language. There are methods though to reinstall a fresh OS but reuse the licenced activation key supplied with your computer.

    Still some fantastic bargains to be had over there... pretty much pick your laptop and you will be able to locate it over there my guess!

    yeah, i am wondering the same thing,
    i'll be going to singapore soon, so i am wondering is it worth it to buy a couple of netbooks, bring them home and sell them to friends.
    and of course keep the high spec one for myself!

    so apart from the os being in a foreign language, which can be easily worked around, (i think)
    would battery life become less because of different volts and hertz?

    The reason i ask is my american laptop seemed to me to lose its battery life very quick after I moved back to Ireland. this was noticable after about 3 months.

    If you come back with several netbooks and were unlucky enough to be checked you'd be well in excess of the tax limit, just be warned.

    Other than OS and chargers the only other thing is keyboard layout.

    Just wondering if any of you guys did actually end up buying a laptop?

    I'm heading off to China and Thailand this summer and I was thinking of making a purchase. It would be great to hear if anyones got first hand experience. I wouldn't be too worried about the warranty but its more the language barrier, keyboard issues that I have reservations about?
