Home Recording advice

Feel free to move this thread if its in the wrong place but I'm looking for advice on a cheap home recording unit that I can piece together a few tracks just for my own amusement.

It would need to have some form of decent built in drum machine as I will be mainly laying down bass riffs and trying to piece music around them. I have an effects pedal with a drum machine on it but would like the freedom to put down more than the standard tracks you get on these effects. Maybe I need software?

I see loads of little pocket size recorders on Thomann for around €150-€200.
One even has effects on it for electric guitar which could suit.

    http://www.thomann.de/gb/boss_micro_br.htm

I am not a techie and I hate anything too complicated. I have loads of riffs and think it would be fun trying to devise songs from them.

    Any advice?

I used the Micro BR for my home recordings with the effects and built in drum tracks.. And tbh it really does the job for the price imho..

Had a listen there. Nice work!

Are the drums and guitar effects in your songs straight from the BR?

    Sounds pretty good.

I used the preset Drum tracks but you can program them yourself from scratch, i havent quite got the patience for that! And it has 80 quite nice tones, its also very straightforward to use, best 160 quid i ever spent tbh..

if ya have a decent computer don't bother with them cause i've one an don't use it anymore, just buy one of these

then ya can have a professional setup!!!! :D

altho if you have a rubbish or shared computer then i guess the compact is better for ya

I'd go the software route because you have so much control over FX automation, mastering / EQ and chopping up tracks and arranging them at your fingertips.

I use ableton live but I am moreso into the electronic end of things.

I only have a laptop at home with a standard spec. Probably not capable of handling stuff like this or would it?
