Thread about this here before i think. No i dont think we should copy. We should have somethin of our own for once, without having to copy england.

I agree with Dusty87 we should have our own mag and rather than have one that comes out every month and are at pains to fill it with rubbish and turn readers off, if it came out only every quarter or three times a year but have good quality and informitave reading would be much better. Also have it geared towards the lamping fox, rabbit, denning , beating cover folk ferreting. I think it would do very well There are a lot of hunters out there in our little country with a lot of experience

Well in fairness like, a mag wit the likes of johng fox hunting reports, pigeon shooting, letters to editor etc would be good readin as its people from home. Obviously not every month but may a report on x shooting this month and y shooting next etc. Questions and answers. Tips on irish shooting etc. Could prove very good. *by irish shooting i mean for instance pheasants not on a drive for once and by irish shooters. The odd competition etc would be nice.

I agree 100% with ya Dusty BUT how is it gonna happen ? Producing a mag and getting it distributed isn't that easy

how many copies do you think the digest sells every month . as a nation of hunters were very small . a copy of the digest generally sees many hands before the bin .

it covers a little bit of everything i think ,cal and the guy that wrights about the shotgun cartridges really piss me off ,as a little bit of knowledge does not go a long way .
i would love to see a blog by derrick burnett coming up to london , i think this would give all young potential shooters a insight to the commitment derrick has for the sport and highs n lows involved in it .

i know well bunny. I just meant what i would like to see. I know it would take a lot of money, a lot of time and a big risk to get it goin. And to keep it goin past a few issues.

Why does it have to be a paper magazine?

To be honest, by the time anything at all makes it to any print magazine or newspaper these days, it's already made the rounds on the internet, regardless of the subject. So why wait several months to pay to read about what you could be reading and discussing right now for free?

FWIW lads, before anyone starts putting money into this project.Do market research,do market research, and do market research again! Then sell advert space, sell advert space, and sell more advert space. That is a lifeblood of the magazine.
Since I started my shooting life,I can think of at least five magazines here in Ireland that have started and folded within three editions, that had the idea of being the great white Irish shooting hope.

I can tell you straight off a quaterly wont work! Not so much from the articles, they tend to be better somtimes, but the actual production of the paper magazine.Take a leaf out of our enemies book[ICABS Animal voice] and go the Ezine route, cheap ,easily modified ,effective and a worldwide distribution, rather than a few thousand people in Ireland.

An internet based source is the way to go, no doubt it gets rid of a lot of overheads and headaches.

An Irish version of this would be good. I particularly like the videos embedded into it. If it covered the topics wildfowler mentioned I would be the first to sign up to it. This one is free so they must make their money from advertising. I like the layout and it's easy read.
I would like one of the good UK mags to be online like the sporting gun on shooting sports magazine so that I could see if it's the feel of having a magazine in my hand that I like or, if the online content was the same, would I be just as happy to read it on my laptop?

think along the lines of the "local advertiser" format, except on national scale,

The thing about advertising is that it's very rare to read a negative review of a service or product offered or produced by a magazine's advertiser.

That's one of the big advantages of internet sites. Not much needed in the way of advertising, so less commercial pressure to drum up sales for anyone.
