I have mains electrin on an outfarm which I use for elect fence onlt.

I need to buy a new fencer, however the standing charge on the ESB is circa €120 per annum.

I am thinking of buying a dual fencer, so if I decide to disconnect the ESB that I can then power the fence on a car battery.

My question is if I use a brand new car battery is the output as good as from the mains.

How long would the car battery last until I needed to recharge it

7 to 10 days is not very long, thought you would get 2-3 months

it all depends on how often you are visiting the field i know a few farmers who use there tractors or jeeps to charge the car battery when they are looking at there cattle every 2 or 3 days

We have a meterless esb supply on the outfarm it only cost about 25 to 30 € per annum the esb have fitted a low power rating trip switch in their control box so if we plug in any thing stronger than the fencer it will trip off

    might be worth looking into

depends on the distance to the supply and the number of supplies on the transformer could vary from a couple of hundred to a couple of thousand

I work a battery fencer off an old tractor battery. I charge it about every 3 wks or so. The battery is nearly gone now as I 've been using it a few years now.

I see that Maplin have solar panel chargers for sale at about 40Euro. There's no reason why these wouldnt work on the battery.
