    Hi,

Im travelling back from London to Dublin via holyhead on the sunday night/monday morning 2.40 am ferry. My train gets back to Holyhead at 00.50 so im wondering is there any late bars nearby the port that I could go to to pass the time. Feedback would be appreciated;)

Holyhead, Swansea, Dover, Dunkerque, Roscoff - ferry ports generally are the most dismal, desolate places on earth IME. Try this, but I think Holyhead closes at 23:30hrs on Sunday nights, apart from the little coffee-shop in the booking hall.

Bring some cans with you on the train?

I usually get a couple in at Chester, then try and grab some sleep on the train. At Holyhead you only have an hour to kill as they will board you before 2am.

btw, Marks and Spencer at Euston does some nice mini bottles of wine, much cheaper than on the train.

Holyhead unfortunately is the arsepit of hell. Probably the most boring town going, and in winter.....worse.

Holyhead wouldn't be renown for it's night life, low lifes a plenty though.

    Roscoff is pleasant enough.

It is a truly dreadful place, which is a shame because most of the rest of Angelsey is actually quite nice. The only other place there that comes close to it in terms of sheer nastiness is another former port on the NE coast of the island called Amlwch.

It's not that bad actually .. having been given a Welsh first name (same as my username) by my parents, and spending many holidays in Wales as a kid, I learnt Welsh pronunciation out of interest. At least it's internally consistent which is more than can be said of English :)

    Anyway, it's still a dump, however it's prononced :D

Spent a very pleasant night on a boat in the small harbour in Amlwch. Watched Wales play rugby on the telly in a local and we were made very welcome.

Another -1 for Holyhead though. :D
