    this: http://www.sony.ie/product/vn-e-series/vpceb1m0e-wi during the week.

Now I know that sony laptops tend to be overpriced and was reluctant to buy it because of this. Was I right? Would it have been a bad buy? €750. It has the main aspects that I would have been looking for - good processor, memory etc.

Can anyone recommend any alteratives? Id prefer to buy in a shop than online.

I am not an expert, but I did some research recently in regards to buying a new laptop. The specs don't look to bad for that price, however I've read that a dedicated graphics card tends to be better than an Intel one (Intel® HD Graphics). I guess it depends on what you want the laptop for. The Intel one might be more than enough.

You might want to do some more research on the graphics card on that laptop to see what other people make of it.

Actually I think 750 is a fairly reasonable price for that.

I almost bought a VPCEA1S1E (14in screen) at lunch myself (city centre Dublin 1 location...)... price was €859. Price to get it delivered from UK would come to around the same price so local prices here are actually OK.

I looked a few other similar spec (Toshibas), and when choosing, it's starting to come down to look and feel of the thing. Have to say I really like the keyboard on the Sony (a crap keyboard drives me nuts.. like on my old acer). If you have the extra 20 or 30 quid, I think it's worth getting something you'll be very happy with...

I just see that the on the VPCEA1S1E, the graphics card is ATI Mobility Radeon™ HD 5145 Graphics
    full spec here. http://www.sony.co.uk/product/vn-e-series/vpcea1s1e-w

I guess that's what the extra €100 is for...

Time get my flexible friend out of me pocket and go shopping after work :D

I saw alot of sony laptops, in the sony store, o,connell st yesterday between 500to 599.
And harvey norman have good deals on laptops at the moment.
if you are not looking for a gaming, 3d design laptop , i see no point in paying more than 500/600.
i think intel grahics is ok,for webrowsing, music, email,a radeon 250meg card will use more battery power than an intel card.
