I'll try to keep this short and sweet, which means ofc it won't be.

I was doing a degree and became rather ill. I therefore had to withdraw mid yr. It took longer than expected to recover but eventually I did. I have been in contact with the uni about returning to finish the degree since June and I'm just getting nowhere.

I understand they can say no, feck off. And if they actually told me this directly I'd be fine, well disappointed but at least I'd know where I stood. Last week I eventually got an email saying the (academic) school had given my return a green light. Needless to say I was relieved and happy.

So I was told to deal with the admin ppl, I was expecting a lot of red tape, but I figured it'll be worth it in the end. But now after talking to them for a while, they've said they've no clue wheather I should reapply extrenally or am I even valid to return and don't understand my 'status'. And listed off a few other depts I should maybe contact despite the fact I've dealt with these other depts already and they've directed me to them! I'm soo confused!

The only solid info I was given was to contact them again the week that term starts, and to make meetings then, to try and organise it then and to start back basically a month late. wtf?

Yes I know now is a very busy time for colleges, which is why I was trying to sort this before now.

Not sure if I'm looking for advice or a noose at this stage. :)

I can completely empathise with your situation! I was given the complete and total run around by the university I'm attending regarding a similar scenario. In the end, it emerged that their internal lack of communication caused much of the problem. Even though the academic council eventually approved of what I was trying to do, it took months for my case to get as far as them, and many more months before this was communicated to me. I then had to follow up with several more departments and offices to actually get registered; because I was not within the standard system, nothing happened automatically as it normally would.

I would advise you to check with as many people as possible regarding your current status - registrar, fees office, academic department you study with, etc. You will eventually find the person who can give you a definite answer. I would be very slow to wait until the term starts as many courses have a quota of students per year and if they are not aware you have the right to be in the year/class, you may end up without a place. Particularly if you were/are a first year, getting in before the CAO places are allocated may be important.

I would also recommend having everything on paper and bringing the lot with you when you physically go to see these people. I spent a lot of very frustrating time on the phone before I realised that face to face is the only way to make progress. Best of luck with the bureaucracy!

If they green-lighted it you should apply internally.

Forward the email to the admissions office with a cover note advising "I am returning to college in September, as agreed in the email below. Am I right in saying my place is guaranteed and I can simply register as usual in September? Please advise whether there is anything else you require."
