I've found in my time that a surprising amount of people will believe absolutely anything. I'm not exactly a sceptic by any means but there's a certain point where the irrational becomes plain ridiculous. I've heard of people who genuinely believe they have super-powers but yet have been tested and proven perfectly sane, and I've seen plenty of similar cases on this site alone.
