I have a Grundig (GUFSAT02SD) satellite receive and I'm trying to connect it to my Sony DVD recorder. The receiver has just one scart input/output.

Both my TV and DVD recorder are digital ready with HDMI connections etc.

Anyone know the best way I can connect them so I can record the FREESAT channels?

    Orange pilled.

Grundig ---> DVD recorder via scart or rf( if it has it)
DVD recorder ---> TV via HDMI,scart,rf.....

Ok, I am now able to record from my sat receiver to DVD recorder. I also have the Irish channels through an aerial. I don't seem to be able to record them though.. Any ideas?

    thanks.

Becuase you are using the TVs built in tuner and not a set top box.

Which is why I argue that ultimately all you need is loads of HDMI and a SCART or two on a TV with a separte Setbox PVR. I hope the ones with "archive" HDD to Bluray Disk (BD recordable) come down a bit in price, otherwise one with HDD (Hard Disk Drive) recording and Ethernet to copy to PC for "Archive" to disk.

So any suggestions what I can do? I scanned for new channels on my DVD recorder after I connected it to my TV but none were found.

I am connected with HDMI and scart from Hard Disk Recorder to TV and with scart from satellite receiver to recorder.

I assume that you have the aerial lead plugged into the rf in socket on your recorder and then looped to your tv from rf out socket using an rf lead.

Some uk spec recorders only come with a digital freeview tuner, no analogue tuner is fitted.

This may sound stupid but don't :D when you connect a dvd recorder up to a STB will the dvd recorder's tuner locate all the 130+ channels and store them for timer recordings.

Do any of the STB's as sold by Tony & others have PVR like Sky boxes do?

    You'll hurt peoples brains

1)The DVD recorder only has one channel. The Setbox. But you can set a reminder on the set box so it switches to correct channel at correct time. You set DVD to record the AV channel at that time.

    2) Of course everyone sells Sky+ like PVRs with built in HDD. Freesat HD PVR is the better choice.

I've hit another problem. I can't view anything on my satellite receiver while my DVD recorder is switched on. As soon as i switch the recorder off I can view all channels no problem.

    Anyone know why?

You may need to switch the AV input on your TV to match the recorder.

    Worth a try.

Yep, it's already set that way but as soon as I switch on the DVD recorder it totally overrides my receiver.

I'll take a look at my own setup when I get in tonight and let you know exactly how it is, if you think it mght help you. ?

I've a Toshiba RDXV-47 connected to my second hand digibox used in fta capacity I' also have my rooftop aerial coax (for RTE etc) connected directly into the Toshiba and can record from both sources (not simultaneoulsy) and have no problems viewing Sat channels when the Tosh is in operation as long as the TV AV is set to the Tosh input.

Problem sorted, thanks. Finally got it after fiddling around with the input buttons on both TV and DVD recorder remotes. :)
