    Bet the laptops running Vista?

First thing to do is to uninstall BOTH lots of modem software then reinstall the one you want.

That may not work if not try a system restore to before the second modem was installed

If that fails it gets messy as only way I have fixed it is to delve around in the registry.

Is it the laptop that won't detect it, or the modem software that won't detect the modem present? When you install the software, there's often a memory resident portion of the program that runs on startup. This is intended to prevent other software from taking over the modem operation.

Run a program called msconfig (Start - Run - msconfig) and go to the Startup tab. Looks like this:

Have a look for any Vodafone and Three software, and uncheck the box next to them. Reboot the computer and then these will not start. You don't need them anyway. See will it work after you do this.
