Coming back from England to sign on

Hi

I lived in Ireland for the last 5 years but earlier this year i was laid off and also split up from my wife. I went back to my family in England and my (ex)wife is looking after our 2 children.

I had a job for 3 months in England but have been let go from that as well, and now want to come back to Ireland to see my kids more often.

I will be claiming Jobseekers Benefit to start with and will be living in a hostel till i have money coming in to rent a flat.

How long does the JB usually take to come through and can i get any other financial help to see me through till it does?

EDIT:
Persons who find themselves in financial difficulty while waiting for the allowance to come though may apply for assistance under the Supplementary Welfare Allowance scheme, just ask at the welfare offices.
