I would like peoples opinions on the following trip I plan to do in the new year, it will be something as follows:

    Mumbai, India 3rd - 9th January 2011

    Bangkok, Thailand 9th - 15th Jan

    Hong Kong, 15th - 21st Jan

    Singapore, 21st - 27th Jan

    Sydney 27th - 8th Feb

    Hawaii 8th - 15th Feb

    Chicago 15th - 20th Feb

    Return Home

Is this to much to do over this time frame would it be worth it? What do people think? Should I just explore so Thailand and Oz for the 7 weeks instead?
    Opinions much appreciated..

I spent a summer in Chicago and 6 weeks travelling around Thailand, Laos and Cambodia. I'd say that the 5 or so days you have planned in Chicago would be enough to see most of the city and get a good sense of it.

The time you have allocated for Bangkok I think is not worth it. Thailand is worth spending a considerable amount of time in, at least a month in my opinion. While Bangkok is a great city there is so much more to be seen in the rest of the country. 5 days there would be very enjoyable, but you're missing out on the rest of Thailand, although you are going to loads of other interesting places so you're still going to have a great time.

Sounds like a great trip, would love to be doing it.

slow down, you move to fast.....
pick one or two countries and move slowly enjoying everything they have to offer,,,,, you can always go back to the other countries u have missed out on. I spent 5 months in north india alone when i forst started to travel. most of all have fun, enjoy and i would love to be u headin off on a 7 week adventure.

Thanks for the input, I was thinking the same myself about Thailand, however it's a place which I would see myself going on a 3 week holiday as some stage and travelling around. I really only have this window with work and I have the feeling that I wouldn't get another opportunity to visit most of the other places. I have been to a lot of places in the US apart from Chicago have only heard good things about the place.. Thanks once again.

Inteersting itinerary and I can see the logic of it if you want to get a flavour of a lot of places. I'd skip Singapore though - it's a glorified shopping centre ansd you'll get a much better flavour of an Asian city in Bangkok. If you wanted to replace Singapore, KL is interesting and Saigon and Hanoi are great cities. Tokyo would be the very best option given your general route.

Agree with this Singapore is far too westernised as is just a massive shopping centre and a place to break the journey to Australia in. Spend more time in Thailand or somewhere like Vietnam or Cambodia.

if i had 7 weeks i'd focus on flying to Bangkok, then 2 weeks in Thailand, 2 weeks in Laos and final 3 weeks in Indonesia flying home from Jakarta.

with you itinerary you'll be spending the guts of a week in airports or flying, this time could be better spent exploring the islands of Thailand or Indonesia.

Having got back from a Round the World trip myself I have to agree with this, you will be spending say 3 hours at each airport and the following day you will be wrecked (if you have jumped any few time zones) so that is pretty much a lost day, then if you get a sore throat or something from the flight you are going to lose more time. If you could fly westwards it would make the effect of jetlag easier to bear as you would be waking earlier.

6 days in Singapore is too much (can be expensive). 3 days is probably enough. Saying that - it is worth seeing, and theres lots to do other than shop there. I've been to KL and Singapore. Def. more to do in Singapore. 5 days in Bangkok is too much for 1 city. better to go to one of the Thai islands for 5 days and relax.
