You have a UK Freeview tuner so, bring it back to the shop ( likely a UK multiple and equally likely a noname unit not a brandname ) and tell them it does not and will not work in Ireland and give you your money back.

If you bought it in the UK then tough .

the turner is built into the tv only has a uk setting, what would i be looking for when buying the irish turner ?

Built in Digital tuner you have= mpeg2 (for uk)

Built in digital tuner Ireland = mpeg4 (its technically not the tuner but I dont want to confuse you).

I forgot the Germans were even worse than the UK retailers....I have never seen a Lidl or Aldi TV that will work with Digital in Ireland yet. What retailer sold you this TV that does not work ????

bought it in aldi 2 years back, is there a digibox that i can use ?

If it has HDMI in you should consider a "TNT HD" branded one from pixmania. Not TNT but TNT HD. This yoke STB found earlier would tune and record and output to HDMI as well as store music etc.

No digiboxes in our shops ....yet. A French "TNT HD" unit or a UK "Freeview HD" unit would be required...the latter for the flash teletext.

There's this, SaorView TV ready and full MHEG support. Little on the pricey side at €100 though. Unless you're desperate to pick up DTT right now, I'd wait until official launch in October as prices should come down a good bit below €100, once a few certified boxes hit the market.
