great car i had one, great on juice, tons of room and i mean tons! price is a bit high alright as she does not have the leather which makes a big differance in the a6 but im sure ya could talk it down a fair bit, have a look at it if ya like it decide what ya would be happy payin for it and offer him less, leave it with him and see how ya get on! good luck with it

    What about the 2.5 TDI?

    http://www.carzone.ie/search/results?nParam=4294911129%2B200590&searchsource=browse&cacheBuster=1282076044382769#nParam=4294911129%2B200590%2B102456%2B200405%2B200430&sortby=Make|0&channel=CARS&currency=EUROS&searchResultsView=THUMBNAIL&maxrows=10

    A bit of fwaaaaaaaaaa

The 1.9 is a fine engine and wont give you any trouble as long as you keep good care of it.
The car I dont have experience with but Im sure its a grand yoke, though expensive compared to the ones in my search.

A car after my own heart!!!!

The 2.5TDI would be great....until it comes to insurance and tax! :D

Space isn't that important and I'm not in a rush to get anything just yet.

I'm just looking for something which would be at home on a motorway as I'll be doing trips from Wicklow to Nenagh on a weekly basis from next week.

Cruise control would be a bonus.

My mechanic is on the lookout for a 320d/A4/Passat but I never thought of these A6's.

Ahh dont let sense take over! :p

The 1.9 will be at home on the motorway and if you cant find a cruise control model Im fairly sure it can be retrofitted at a decent price. It can be on the Passats and Golfs anyway.

But the 2.5 will be fwaa :):p

Suppose I best be helpful instead of heckling you to get the 2.5 :p

I believe the 130 hp 1.9 is a PD TDI. This engine needs specific oil so a good service history is essential. Also, I would ring up random garages on it and the one that pops up most and ask them what oil they would use. It must be fully synthetic and meet the VW505.01 standard.

You may need to get a coolant temp sensor changed, cheap fix however. Not worth putting you off. Really engine wise there isnt much to look out for besides a well maintained motor.

If you like it talk to Alan or Damien. They are nice people to deal with. I live in Cork and always buy my cars there.

I've been there before, its not a million miles away.

They used to be very difficult to deal with (the father at least) but then again he has every type and shape of car you could ever want. The place baffles most people but if you search around you can find some jems.

Thanks for the replies guys, there is no mention of service history with it and I know from my brother Audi it isn't easy tell if its done more miles than displayed but at that age i'll be buying on condition

Seems a little pricey and the mileage is very low for the year.

Should be a good machine if its genuine and serviced.

That 1.9 130 and 6 speed is a great combo.

Just passed the NCT yesterday for my ten year old 2.5TDI Quattro sport avant. 180,000 miles on and still going like a train.

Just a quick reply and update.

I test drove a nice example yesterday in Frank Hogans in Limerick, 2002 1.9TDI with 123k on the clock.

Absolutely lovely car, apart form the previous owner being a smoker.

Was offered the car for 5K straight but decided it was a bit big for a guy on his own.

Lovely car though so if anyone is interested in one I'd look at it.

Not much bigger than a Passat John, wouldn't put me off to be honest. Lad at work has a 1999 2.5tdi one, he likes it a lot. You'll buy a 2.5 for a good bit less than the 1.9 too.

Sounds like you know me too well!:D

The local one was a 2002 2.5TDI with 80K on the clock and 7K was the asking price

Insurance wanted 600e extra for the year (until July 2011) plus tax was expensive also.

With the asking at 7k it wasn't worth trying to haggle down as it would still be overpriced

As for the size, I don't know what to think. I like bigger cars but as I have nothing to fill it it seems a waste

I think I've reached the stage where I have to loose it!

Thanks for the well wishes, I'm bloody nervous to say the least but I'll be started next week so its not all bad!
