Good idea to run 2 races in a weekend?

Sorry in advance, this is probably a stupid 'newb' question....:o

There are 2 races next month I hoped to enter - 'The Lakes' 10k and Rathfarnham 5k. But......

'The Lakes' is on the Saturday, the Rathfarnham 5 is on the following day.

Is it a good idea to run 2 races in one weekend? Or should I just pick one and stick with it? Seeing as they're pretty short races I'm assuming I wouldn't be at risk of injury or anything.......

(Told you it was a stupid question )

I'd say it depends on your fitness and how well you would like to do in the races. I've known of a few guy who did two 10k's in the same day so two races in two days is more than possible. If you're a begineer who is just starting out it might not be that advisable but its still possible. You will more than likely not run to your full potential in the second race, although you might be suprised. If you do decide to run the two I'd say the best advice would to be try do as much as you can after the first race to recover well and have your body in the best shape going into the second, so eating right after the race, proper warm down and stretching etc.

No problem to run 2 races, maybe not a good idea to race 2 runs.

    All depends.

I raced the Lexlip 5km one day and the Kildare Half the day after and got a pb in both. No doubt I'd have done better in the second one if I'd not done the first, but I didn't care and was happy.

Funny that I had toyed with that idea as well - running both these races but have decided to settle for The Lakes as I am aiming for a sub 40 10K which will be a big effort for me and I expect to empty the tank in trying to achieve it.

Is there day entries for Rathfarham as depending how I feel I may run it but with no targets just have a go but as of now no plans to

Had looked at the two of these races myself in the end decided to opt for another 10k as there are 3 in the 3 weeks coming up to that which may be an alternative instead

    BHAA 10k(firhouse) 11th
    Adamstown 11th
    Kilkenny 10k 19th

Personally think the first is the first and second best PB potential though not fully certain of the Kilkenny route TBH. Dunno if that too early in your training or not but us an option

Yes, 20 quid in advance or 25 on the day. I might do it myself, depending on how I feel after long run the day before, and availability of childminders...

    Thanks all.

I think I'll focus on the Lakes 10k seeing as I'm trying for a sub 50. (Didn't manage it in Moone a couple of weeks ago :()

Then, if the legs feel up to it, I'll nip up to Rathfarnham the morning after. This was my first race ever last year so I'd love to run it again to see how much I've improved.

Depends if you want to race them. run the 1st one and race the 2nd.

Agree with above. Pick one and race it. Got a PB for Dunshaughlin 10K this year and had done the Tara Dawn Run that morning @ 04:30.
