    Hi Guys,

I am looking to join a gym in Dublin 15. I live in Tyrellstown so somewhere near there would be ideal. I was looking at total fitness but its €500 seems expensive is it worth it?

    Any help would be great!

    Cheers,

    Ian:D

This would be the cheapest option at €250

Would be looking for somewhere thats not packed everyday! I belive this gym is always packed. I wouldn't mind paying more if there was more room.
What about the aquatic center? Anyone a member there?

In fairness the Coolmine Gym is fairly good. Wouldn't be ranked up there with Westpoint and Total Fitness but it does exactly what you need. Much cheaper than the other 2 and not really as many members as far as I know.

Dont think Total Fitness is worth the €500 when compared to the others in the area. Also with all the road works in the area there would be a pain to get in/out of!!

WestPoint is a decent gym for the money but can get very busy. If you were to mostly use the gym outside peak hours this wouldnt be a problem but if you plan to go mainly in the evening/weekends you could be waiting to use some of the equipment (mainly treadmills/x-trainers). I also didnt like where the pool is in the gym.

The Gym in thhe Coolmine sports complex is around the same price as Westpoint and supposed to decent enough. Dont think it gets as busy as Westpoint.

The gym in the aquatic centre is nice but think its around the same price as total fitness, if not a little more expensive. Is the closest to Tyrellstown tho!

Its come down a fair bit then.
I looked into joining about 2 and a half years ago and it was at least 600 then.
Was shown around it and it looked impressive but never actually trained there

I use the gym in the aquatic center. I think the website says it's 490 but if you go in they will give it to you for 390.

It's never really that busy, there are always free cardio machines. Sometimes straight after work the free weights secion is empty. No one seems to like using the squat cage which suits me down to the ground. I can do my squats and bench in the cage. They have a smith machine, 4 benches, multiple different dumbells, EZ curl bar, incline bench, pulley machine.

They also have loads of different machines.

Many of the members there do not keep the free weights section tidy, when I arrive it's generally a complete mess. I tend to clean it up, picking whatever weights I need from the floor, doing my sets then returning to them to their proper place. I consider it exercise so it doesn't bother me too much. There is one guy on the staff who is a stickler for a clean weights area, I know when he's on duty because the place is spotless. He also gives out to people for not returning the weights to their rightful place.

Obviously the swimming pool is top notch. There is a steam room, sauna and jacuzzi. Changing rooms are adequate although I think the floors could be cleaned a bit more frequently. There are members and public changing areas.

That's all I can think of right now, any questions and I'll try to answer them as best I can!

EDIT: If you do join, drop my name and I'll get a month free :)

    Yes.

    It is a rip off.
    The gym is tiny.
Seriously for the flipping size of that building the gym is miniscule.
If it was a private sector facility, it would have been shut down years ago.
Fortunately, us idiot tax payers are more than happy to subsidise that big white elephant for all eternity.

Sounds like you should check out Coolmine.

    Hi Ian

Im in Total fitness in blanch and used to work there also .. i think aside from price take into account other things like what time your training at , what facilities you want or need .... will you require a personal trainer or motivation from other members etc .... taking into account for me personally TF is the best in the local area although at the moment the place is a bit of a mess its due a full revamp as soon as the roadworks are complete .. best weights room around for bodybuilding / powerlifting .. never too busy at peak hours and great pool and hydro facilities when there actually working ... i would rule out the NAC and Ben Dunnes and consider eith Total fitness , westminstown gym or Coolmine!!! and if not i will sell you gym equipment for home haha :()

    Hi,

I lived in Tyrellstown a while ago.

I'm not sure if it's still there but there was a gym in the Blanchardstown Corporate Park. I never got to visit it but spotted it when getting the 40D home from work.

TF in Blanchardstown is a hole, stay away, machines, shower area and place in general is out of fashion. Went to a few classes like spin and it was a disaster, left half way through!

Also very hard to access it when any kind of traffic. I left after a month of joining.
