Alright guys, looking for suggestions here. Budget, €4,000 - €5,000
What cars come to mind when ya read this. The year doesn't really matter, just the car itself, but do mention which year model the car is as they do vary over time

    Criteria:
    Preferably rear wheel drive.
    1.6-2.0ltr engine size
    Medium sized saloon, 4dr
    Very solid, stable, heavy.
Wide wheel base for grip (probably sports models)
    A realiable engine.
    Good brakes

Basically i want a solid car that won't waver in a slight breeze, it doesn't need to be a rocket, but does need to have good grip and braking as i value good stopping power and car control.

So what cars should i be lookin at? BMW? VW? Honda? Subaru?

If you can ignore the RWD part then get the best Honda Accord you can in your budget. My old 99 Accord is still better than most new cars Ive been in, and would set you back about €2k at this stage...

If rear wheel drive is important, you can knock VW, Honda and Subaru off that list, they don't do any RWD saloons.

if you say rwd it really narrow's down your choice.

    320d so.

rear wheel was prefered, but if it's very limited, then front wheel suggestions are welcome, like the honda accord.

Good, because otherwise your options were limited to BMW, Mercedes and Lexus. Just trying to pick a few non obvious choices, how about a Mazda 6 (petrol only, avoid the diesel) or for a bit more go, a Volvo S60.

Forget heavy, you don't need a heavy car. A well set-up car will grip and handle well no matter what the weight. Look at F1 cars! 600kgs with driver! :)
If you want plenty of grip, then you could do worse than a Subaru Legacy. The 2 litre petrol models can be found in excellent condition for not a lot of money. A little thirsty, but reliable, comfortable and handle well.

Honda do too, the Legend, but a little more than 2 litre! And VW also have 4WD saloons!

    Here's some suggestions,

    Subaru Legacy (4WD)
BMW 3 series ( Hard to find a good one in the price range) RWD
    Volvo S60 FWD
    Honda Accord FWD
    Alfa romeo 156 FWD?

RWD is hard to get in your spec, you could go 5 series but the millage will be high. Hope you find something you'll be happy with
