Replacing Cylinder?

My recently purchased second hand house dating from 1980. The cylinder, I wonder if I shoul replace it? Not sure how old it is, but around the connections there is a bit of green hard gunk. It does have however a green aerobord type factory fitted insulation.
Anyone know if I should replace this? How big of a cylinder do I need to run a dual heating system with 10 rads, one bathroom ? I am re-doing the heating system anyway as its very messy, I dont know about the cylinder. It is a dual coil and to be honest does not look very ancient apart from the aforementioned gunk aspect.

    Thanks a lot for advice,

    John

If your doing the whole lot then u might as well, however the older cylinders are made better, stronger domes etc. Twin coil cylinders are also pretty expensive so if it was mine I would probably leave it be. Surely it can't be that old if it's lagged? I would wait until it leaks. The green could just be some discoloured flux or joining paste and maybe not that harmless unless u can see it weaping.

For one bathroom a 36x18 is ample, but if u have a stove and r likely to have good hot water then u might as well spend a few pound more and get a 42x18. If your hoping to use a powershower then I would go to a 48x18
