    Hi all!
Just considering having my wedding here and am wondering would anyone have any experiences that they would like to share.
I went to see the hotel and I can honestly say the grounds are impressive. I did find the inside of the hotel quite old style and when I was shown around it was very dirty but that was because they held a wedding there the day before, so I didn't get to see it at it's best.
Does anyone know what the food is like? They are willing to give me a pretty good deal!
    Thanks :)

I was at wedding there about 2-3 years ago. I loved the outside of the building, it's pretty impressive drive up. I don't really remember the food but if it had been awful I would remember I'm sure. The wedding room is well laid out and the option for guests to rent the houses out the back makes it much more reasonable for out of town guests like me.

i was at a wedding there 3 years ago now, and while the grounds are indeed fab the food wasn't great. by that i mean it wasn't memorable - and by the time we got ours it was cold. it was a big wedding though so maybe they were a little understaffed? we had paid for b+b but the next morning at breakfast the staff at the dining room had no record that we had paid for breakfast - and we weren't the only ones so a load of us decided to head into town to eat. as far as the couple were concerned there were a few things they weren't happy either, like being charged for a room for the best man they were told was included in their package, and i remember some other hoo-haa about the fact that they had only one barman on duty for the residents bar - given that there was nearly 400 at the wedding and most people stayed after the function room closed it was mayhem for a while till they called more staff in. it was a lynch hotel then, i thought i heard it's been taken over by someone different now? i could be wrong.

Went there on a cheap weekend away about 2 or 3 years ago. Remember loads of screaming kids running around the place who wrecked my head during breakfast. They were running around the corridors till all hours too. The barman was sound though and very professional. Rooms weren't anything special, but then again, I wasn't paying Ritz prices. It's a grand hotel though. Some amazing seafood restaurants in Westport. A climb up Croagh Patrick is a great afternoon out.

My sister is having her wedding there next August, the grounds are amazing. I was at an afters of a wedding 3years ago (:D) and really enjoyed it. No problems with not enough bar staff etc. The couple that got married that day were very impressed food was fab, no complaints.

Good luck! Try and get them to include the chair covers! It worked for my sister!

Thanks for all the replies, certainly food for thought! In their deal they included the chair covers for me but no back drop. I have heard very mixed reviews about the hotel, but from the most recent weddings it has been mostly positive

erm...given that at a bare minimum they'd have 104 weddings per year.... probably not...

crutyMyself and the Fiancee where at a wedding there in July this year for a very close friend. It was a 320 dinner guest wedding.

Food was good quality Irish Beef or Salmon type affair. Nothing fancy but good quality all the same

Hotel staff where amazingly helpfull and level of service can not be questioned. Bar was open till breakfast pretty much and the band played the national anthem at 5:30 am.

Some of the new rooms in the hotel are wonderfull.

One thing though at 150 for 2 people for B&B is allot of cash for a 3* hotel!

But the level of service and the staff are amazing. Weekend we where there the hotel was celebrating (x) years in business and stuck 2 envelopes with 1,000 cash under two of the guest chairs:eek:

Plus Ballintubber Abbey is close probably the best Wedding Church in Irland.

Was at 3 wedding and at 2 of them the food was aful and more staff needed, the 3rd wedding the food was nice. Plain but tasty. The rooms are ok but just ok. the setting is beautiful but the hotel itself is only ok-ish. We found it dirty and the bathroom in one of the rooms we stayed in was rank.
