Love this films novel solution to the language gulf between the Norsemen and the titular 13th Warrior compressing/editing what is perhaps meant to be many campfire scene on the way to their destination into what seems like one as we see Antonio Banderas's character observing the norsemen talk and trying to percieve there meaning, as his norse vocabulary grows we begin to hear smatterings of english slowly but surely creep into their conversations till they are talking entirely (to our ears) in english.

It was so refreshing as so many films ignore the language barrier and just have everybody speak the same language no matter their species what country/culture they're from or education .

It was holding true to the book that the film is based upon, Eaters Of The Dead, in how he picked up the lingo.

Have to say that I love the film though.

I love this film. I thought the way they handled the language barrier and how AB character picked it up was very good (have never read the book!).

The soundtrack is excellent as well.

I second this, looks great on Blu-ray too

The 13th Warrior is excellent though, well acted and shot and with a good sense of dread permeating the whole thing

Not seen 13th warrior since it first came out, remember liking it a lot though. I also remember it being generally regarded as pooh at the time. The 90's, eh?

I always liked The 13th Warrior too. Loved the whole Beowulf siege atmosphere it has going on. The cast was surprisingly memorable for a movie like this - each member of the group standing out as an individual and integral part of the whole. Action escapism near its best.

I prefer if she actually wants to watch something, no point forcing soemthing on someone who ahs no interest in it

    Other people's boredom is annoying

I did not care for The 13th Warrior... did not like it.

The first act of the film is a complete write off. It opens arcs which never get resolved by the end of the film.

The Vikings, while the best element of the film, had an enemy which at once seemed
super natural only to turn out to be bunch of moronic troglodytic cosplayers.

AB was a complete miscast imo. Completely unbelievable in his role.

I liked Outlander... ish. I have a taste for B-movie sci-fi and this fit right into that bracket. But it failed in that I ended up sympathizing more with the Alien monster than with the humans.

I tried watching it once, i couldn't even get half way through it. Very bad film in my opinion.

L31mr0d would it have hurt you to use spoiler tags eh for people who haven't seen the film?

Fixed. How old does a film have to be before spoilers aren't required?

He was pure cheese. His acting was terrible. He only works in action films that have a comedy element. His sword play was also atrocious. The only line I've ever heard him deliver effectively has been: "Puss... in boots"

    Loved
The 13th Warrior and Outlander, another good one is "Pathfinder (2007)"

No idea but its good form not to give away too much about a film even if you hate it.

I actually liked him in it and found he added to the film from my point of view. It is a film that people either love or hate that partially has to do with whether you like Antonio Bandyass or not.

I am a sucker for a good Viking film.

Btw add The Vikings to the list of films but bear in mind that I am a Kirk Douglas and Ernest Borgnine fan as well.
