...and then back in the gym tonight. I was expecting loss of strength and in general a crappy workout, but hey hey I had more energy than ever and broke a couple of personal records (including the psychological barrier that was the 200kg deadlift).

Anyone else notice breaks like this do wonders for their body?

same happened me today. got 7 reps at 100kg on bench, 2 better than my previous best, after a couple weeks of boozing.

Yeah think I remember reading somewhere that you can go up to six weeks rest with much loss of muscle.
No harm taking a rest now and then really give you a chance to recover.

I got a deadlift PR after a night on the beer a few months back. :pac:

I noticed that as well! I was away on holiday for 10 days in June, lots of eating out and plenty of drink. Thought I'd be well behind when I got back to the gym but I broke my chin up record by 1 rep on my first go and ran my fastest 2.5km run in under 10mins! :D

I did do lots of diving and snorkeling but I can't imagine that helped?

Christ - if I miss one session I can take a good 2-5 kg off any lift.

From a bit of googling it seems you lose size a lot faster than you lose strength. Also, it seems to depend on the person - everyone's body is different.

Doesn't muscle require a period of rest after a programme in order to grow? Could be completely wrong on that

I wouldnt even attempth PB's after 2 weeks on holidays eating junk food, Id be concerned Id do myself an injury if I did.

It was the rest as opposed to the fact you were boozing.

I'm sure it would have been much more efficient to spend 2 weeks eating and de-loading properly!!

    Much less fun however

I was just about to start a thread on this exact same subject...I have been in the gym twice in the last 6-8 weeks due to work, car project and general good weather.

I went in last night and was able to DL my PB of 170kg then jumped on the bench thinking there is no way i will get anywhere near my PB of 100kg and managed to pyramid up to my PB for 2 reps....I was pretty shocked.

I know the logic tells me i should take it easy and build back up to heavy weights but I just needed to know how much strenght i have lost so i just kept adding weight...

No doubt I'll be pretty sore tomorrow.

i'm on the other side of thing, been out of action since the middle of june with an AC joint injury...lost about 5kg in weight and my lifts are gone to sh!t but i expected that. Strange about losing the weight though cause I was eating and drinking like a beasht for the summer...oh well!

I also expected my weight to go up and i could feel it on my belt but when i weighed msyelf after two months of bad diet and a few big weekends. I was pretty surprised to see my weight was the same....

I am guessing iI lost muscle mass and gained fat...time to reverse that.

Well I got back to the gym yesterday after 2 weeks off and I felt as weak as a bloody kitten! Obviously left all my strength behind me on the holidays!
