Carrots & parsnips make a lovely soup. If you add a handful of red lentils it makes it's even nice - very smooth texture when blended.

About time the Super Six had decent stuff with a good price. The past few I think Aldi chanced their arm a bit. I reckon I'll be getting at least one of each of these.

Just thought I'd post my experiences of this Super 6 offer and this one really is super at only 39cents each.

We are a family of 5 and we tried a little experiment to have a different dinner each day for less than €5. This was spurred on by this fortnights Super 6 offer.

Using this offer we have had the following dinners

    Day 1 - cost less than €5
    Boiled spuds in jackets
    Carrot and parsnip mash
    Aldi Chicken Kievs

    Day 2 - cost less than €5
    Roast spuds
    Roast Carrot
    Rissoles made with Aldi mince

    Day 3 - cost less than €5
Boiled spuds in jackets topped with homemade garlic butter
    Celery
    Aldi Salmon Fillets

    Day 4 - cost less than €5
Home made wedges made with those spuds, oil, salt and pepper
    Baked beans
Sausages from local butcher (kids love them)

    Day 5 - cost less than €5
More wedges because the kids loved them
    Tomato and onion (scallion) omlettes

    Day 6 - cost less than €5
Gratin potatoes made with those spuds again
    Family Steak and mushroom pie
    Roast carrots, tomatoes and parsnips

    Day 7 - cost less than €5
    Salad with
    Potato salad
    Tomatoes
    Scallions
    Cucumber
    Cheese
    Hard boiled egg
    Ham
    Creamed rice for desert

Experiment done and it really showed us that we could eat decent meals at very low prices. Yes we had our breakfast and lunches and the kids love their fruit during the day but for €35 a week we had good, varied dinners.

The Super 6 is usually a good deal. This one is a great deal.

ps I am an Aldi convert. We still shop in Tesco but we are buying more and more in Aldi. Needs must :o

    Chauffe, Marcel, chauffe!

Aldi super six is great, but changing it only every 14 days is a mistake. Whoever thought that up needs a good bollocking :) (and make no mistake - those responsible will read this :))

The super six gets even the most fervent bargain hunters go into an Aldi shop only once every fortnight instead of once a week (if they played their game right)

Yippee, Aldi opening in Kildare Town in October.

Apart from the super six, their barndy at €11 odd is bloody good.

And for desert you could have a choice of mash potato with a drizzling of butter, melted butter over a bed of potato mash or a sprinkling of butter over mince potatoe ;)

Seriously though, Aldi really has made a huge difference with the Super Six. It's definitely a reason to get me to head in there even though the Lidl custard creams are vastly superior to the Aldi custard creams!
Can't say I agree with unkel either. I'd prefer to drop in to pick up fresh veg every few days rather than just once every two weeks so the fact that it only changes once every two weeks isn't a reason to avoid it.

You can even have a lovely roast chicken dinner for less than a fiver from aldi. The baby potatoes are delicious roasted. I usually parboil them, coat in oil, herbs and garlic and roast for about 30-40 mins. yummy:) A small chicken is €3.19, your spuds 39c, carrot and parsnips 39c (again delicious roasted too) and a bit of brocolli or another veg shouldn't be more than €1.

Home-made burgers are another thing I make regulary too, I use the €2.89 mince, add crushed cream crackers (a la jamie oliver-google it), onions, garlic, chillis, herbs and spices. They do lovely large baps for 99c. Then just add your choice of extras.

I think their stewing steak is on offer this week too. (for 1.99 if I recall) Nothing more filling and comforting than a stew.

Someone mentioned desert. I think a 2 litre of vanilla icecream is €1.49.

Great ideas there dfbemt, and goes to prove that you can afford to eat well on very little.

I live quite a distance from Aldi and normally shop there once every month. However, if the supersix is good, I go weekly.

We love the baby potatoes here as well. Slice them, pop in a ziplock bag with olive oil, pepper and salt, close and shake.

Pop in the oven on an oven tray at a high temp until they are done. Yummy homemade chips

I live literally 2 minutes from aldi. It's right across the road from Tesco so I always go to tesco (don't know why, they are always so rude).
Had a look on the aldi website there, great offers! I'm converted.
Dinner a la aldi this evening :)

Excuse my ignorance. What are/where can I get ziplock bags? And can I put the bag in the oven without setting the house on fire. Sounds like a nice way of making chips if so.

In a professional capacity I sincerely advise that you do not put a ziplock bag in the oven ;)

That is exactly how we make our wedges and the kids can't get enough of them. Thankfully, at 39c a kilo, I can give them seconds.

Aldi do ziplock bags. They are clear plastic bags that have a small plastic zipper. Slide the zipper and, hey presto, a zip lock bag.
