Focusrite Saffire LE questions

OK, after my disastrous first experience with a firewire interface, I got a hold of a Saffire LE. Playback is working fine but my question is about the multi-outputs. Can I play say windows media player (or any other music player) alone out of outputs 1+2 (stereo) and another program like guitar rig or amplitube out of outputs 3+4 (stereo) into 2 seperate channels on a mixing desk?

Well... There's Probably a better way to do what you're trying to do, but...

Set the default windows sounds to saffire 1/2 and then set the outputs of GR to 3/4...

    Something like that.

It'd be easier to use the media player in GR or put GR in a DAW and other files on other tracks.

    If you see my point?

Thats kinda what I tried, but all I got was both outputs with the same, mp3 track and guitar rig playback. I keep reading about a sequenser, I take it that is the saffire control software, the small window with the sliders?

    Sequencer?

    Or Mixer?

At any rate did you check what windows is set to as a default?

And what is GR set to use?

Windows mixer is set to the first saffire output (they aren't numbered), and I tried "play3" and "play 4" In the audio settings on guitar rig.

And GR still comes out of 1?

And tell me... Have you gotten any sound at any time out of 2 or 3?

its kinda strange, but Im sure its just a setting I have wrong. I have windows routed through 1+2 , and guitar rig routed through 3+4 , and I have both of them into different channels on the mixer. However, when I play a track and guitar rig at the same time, I get both of them coming through each channel together. Basically Im getting the same thing twice on my desk.

another thing I never thought of is ground (a/c) noise, what do people do if say they are running three outputs from the interface from the laptop? I dont think there are any devices that have 6 - 1/4 outputs are there?

    Yes, sure!

MOTU, Echo, Presonus and TC Electronics all make FireWire soundcard with 6+ 1/4 outs.

Milan, I meant a ground-loop isolating device. I just thought of it now, but I have a ground loop isolator between the saffire and the desk. If I were to use all the outputs it would mean another 2 ground loop isolators would have to be added.

To be really clear, what are the ins set to in GR.

Are you getting any sound out of 3/4 at all? Unplug 1/2.

I haven't had one for about a year, but I still have it sitting in my closet.

Sorry, I'm pre-coffee... Don't know the answer to that off tHe top of my head.

Milan, I think I'll throw my hat in the ring and call it quits, the more I get into these external cards the more confused I get. I just cant get the saffire to do what I want. Unless there is an external card out there that will let me :

    1. let me play windows music or vitrual dj, guitar rig and a karaoke software player from my laptop and out of 3 seperate outputs into 3 seperate channels on my desk

    2. I just need 2 inputs, one for a guitar and one for some basic recording with Audacity

    3. I dont ever want to have to use a program like Ableton again, its just not my thing, I just want a simple interface where I can adjust the outputs - not have to go back to college to learn how to use one of these programmes, they are way more than I need.

Any ideas? is there such a product?
