Men's sandals

Why is it so difficult to get anything nice in this area? Yes, there are plenty of ones around, but a terrible lack of variety.
I was recently looking for another pair and was very disappointed-not for the first time-by the poor selection. There seems to be plenty of crude, chunky,practical-looking ones in plain leather and a fair amount of flip-flops,but if you are looking for something dressy and elegant....forget about it!
There was one nice pair (although Green, not my colour) in Camper and I remember Office (where I bought the pair I have) used to have the odd nice ones, but aside from that it's pretty much a wasteland.
But the idea of attractive-looking sandals for men seems to be regarded as odd. Plus, sandal-wearing men seems to attract a certain amouint of derision: jesus boots, they are called and then there there is the 'green' slagging.

    +1
I bought a pair of sandals about 4 years ago in desperation and I'm still searching for replacements. Even online it's difficult to find anything remotely interesting that doesn't look like it's been made out of an old tractor tire.

Glad to see that there is somebody out there who thinks the same.:)

I had a look online, and there were a few decent things, but I'd be wary about buying anything that has to fit exactly, like footwear, over the web. Some of the comments I saw were rather depressing. As in so many sartorial areas, men seem to want to surround themselves with weird prohibitions and taboos, always at pains not to wear anything that might appear "gay", as they put it

Huh? That's a load of old cobblers! (sorry) - but clothes are much more difficult to buy the correct fit online.

Anyway, have you tried Birkenstock? In Dublin they have a shop on Suffolk or Wicklow street, can't quite remember.

Alos, Tevas, Dr Martens sandals ... Dr Martens even have pink ones!

But they look like cutout wellies. :( I'm staying with loafers for now.

Cobblers? They are my feet after all, and I'm an in-between size, so if anybody has to try things on, its me. I think Birkenstocks are really ugly, but I will look up Alos and tevas.

Well, nearly one year on and no change. the same old same old drab, crude rubbish.
I see Paul Galvin the GAA fashionista in the Indo magazine mentioned the subject yesterday although, depressingly, he trotted out the old tired line about sandals being not right for men because of their ugly feet. Interestingly he recommended some sandals as being good to wear with socks. But wasn't that always one of the biggest fashion faux-pas (not sure how to plural that), a big No-no,fit only for derision. If all has changed and it's now acceptable will these "experts" eat their words, I wonder. :D

Very likely. But...is that respect is he any different from any of the others? I believe that fashion"journalism" is the most ridiculous of all branches of the profession, replete with cliches and stereotypes, lazy prejudices and brown-nosing towards the industry stars and movers-and-shakers.

This is something I feel Zara or certainly Massimo Dutti should have... e.g.

    http://www.zara.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product/ie/en/zara-S2011/61172/318522/ROMAN%2BSANDAL

    http://www.zara.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product/ie/en/zara-S2011/61172/387350/CLASSIC%2BROMAN%2BSANDAL

It's certainly something you see done very well in Spain etc - they do have better shoe shops there tho (as opposed to tacktastic spike heels and stripper shoes)

Love the shoes OldGoat, very elegant.

I don't know because i wouldn't be a big reader of fashion journalism. How this guy can give clothing advise to men is absurd when he can't even dress himself.

They're pretty much the same old stuff, IMHO,clumpy, chunky and lacking variety. But the Zara stuff doesn't look too bad.
