Cancelation of the Magnet account

    Hi folks

I signed up for the broadband with Magnet. A lot of people told me it's a bad choice, but unfortunately I didn't take their advice.

They couldn't provide me the service, so I decided to go with another provider, but to do it, I have to close the magnet account first (because my landline is registered with them).
It took about 2 months, 10 calls and 5 e-mails, to get a reply saying "account has been requested to be ceased".
Now it's another 2 months, they don't reply to my e-mails, they fella who's responsible for this complicated procedure doesn't pick up his phone, you can only leave him a message.
Off course my line is still registered with them.

I've heard they are terrible, but this is getting ridiculous.

Can you advice me on some agencies/authorities I could complain to?
I just thought this might improve their service a little bit, but maybe I'm naive.

    That company is a joke
Looking forward for the official representative's reply

If you knew there was an official representative here, why did you not go to that person directly about it? Your post seems quite vague and I cannot understand how you have an account with magnet if they weren't able to provide you with a service in the first place. Eircom or the likes would't open an account with you if you requested broadband/phoneline and it turned out they couldn't give it to you after all.

Besides, what are all these stories you know of where Magnet screwed people over? What sort of advice were you offered? If you search boards, you'd see that comments are few and far between - and they're generally positive too. The average punter has barely heard of Magnet as it's been a while since they had a big marketing campaign.

I didn't criticise anyone there, I asked some questions to clarify what exactly he was unhappy about. And it's one thing to find out why Magnet are messing up an account issue, it's another thing entirely to mention that lots of people think it's a bad choice without qualifying that at all.

Magnet has a generally positive record on boards though I know they've got it wrong on a couple of occasions I've seen on boards. It doesn't seem plausible that many people would say that they're terrible (just based on all the people I've suggested magnet to, but never heard of them) and it's not particularly relevant in a post from who just wants his problem solved...

Ok, so I've found the customers details and I'm looking into the issue and communicating with the OP (PM at the moment).

What I think TBC is concerned about here is that it could be interpreted that the OP is throwing the baby out with the bathwater.

In saying this I have to acknowledge that dealing with unusual circumstances with seemingly faceless companies can bring out the anxiousness in a lot of people so I won't take it personally.

    Thanks Rory
First I'd like to say that it wasn't personal, and you're right I got frustrated.
My problem was that I couldn't get confirmation if my account is closed or not. After your intervention I know where I stand, finaly. Thanks.

    @ TBC
There were technical issues, basicly there was no signal, it's irrelevant.
Magnet decided to send a technician to check it, he was supposed to call me with date and time.
The techician called me after about 2 weeks, asking if I'm home because he's downstairs :-)
I was at work off course, and tried to get him after 5pm, but he said he works only between 9-5, Mon-Fri.
At this stage I decided to finish with Magnet and asked to close the account.

The other funny thing is calling Eircom, I guess they're to blame here as well.
I called them about 5 times to check if my phone line is still registered with other provider, and every time I got something different. They didn't have my number, didn't have my address in database, or weren't allowed to tell me which provider was it, etc. It looks like it depends on a person you're speaking to.
When I called last time, I was persistent and got all the details without any difficulties.

Anyway thanks again to Rory that he cares.

Just make sure to respond to my PM as to what exactly the most intrusive issue is.

    Hi, how are u today.....

dear Rory, if u still working with Magnet, then I really need your help.

For my job I really need internet. I working for children, they are suffering from starvation.

I ordered magnet 6 or 8 weeks ago, but I still do not have internet from Magnet. After 6 or 8 weeks Magnet sent a technician who is wrongly installed the landline in my home. The technician was working on behalf of Eircom. When the technician was done with his job I called Magnet and I asked them when will I receive the modem for the internet. (originally I ordered fatpipe 100MB/s with unlimited downloads) they answered me that they know that the technician was in my home, but there is no landline in my home and they don't know either why that is. That's why I called Eircom, they said the technician must be wrongly installed the line.

So I made the decision and I called Magnet and I tried to cancel my order with Magnet. They said OK. They promised someone will call me back. Of course no one called me. I called Eircom and I wanted to order e-fibre, because I really need internet for my job. Eircom said: first I have to cancel my order with Magnet. But I think Magnet doesn't care about this. I know I have to wait months and months just like other people had the same experience with Magnet in this Boards.

Can You help me please, to cancel my order with Magnet? They just hold my line for nothing, they did not provide any internet to me. They did not sent me any modem. They sent a technician in 6-8 weeks time who wrongly installed the line or did not install anything. I do not have time for this. I need internet from another provider. But it's look like nothing is possible with Magnet. They not provide internet, but they are not let you go to other provider either. It's a joke. I need someone's help. And I will not give up, if that is necessary I will go to the Citizens Information and I will ask information where should I go and Report this. I don't care about myself, I care about the children I working for. The customer service with Magnet is a joke and unbelievable. Any time I called them by phone they said different things to me, each time they said different answers to my questions. Any time they promised they will call me or text me they NEVER called me back, never text me.

    Hello Fru2006,

I literally signed up to boards.ie just for answer to your problem. I am also working for UNICEF voluntary to help children.

Unfortunately many people say similar things about magnet.ie, they don't have any customer service or the worst ever. I think this is helpful info to you if I tell you who is the Director of magnet.ie:

Mr. Bjarni Thorvardarson - CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER & DIRECTOR

Email: info (at) hibernianetworks (dot) com

Or emal to the same address to: Kenneth D. Peterson, Jr. - CHAIRMAN

Be brave and email to them what happened. I think magnet doesn't have a right to hold your line if you asked them to cancel your order.
If these people will not help you either you can send me PM and I will tell you where can you go for help.

    Robert

citizen007 - They are two different companies.... spurious information doesn't help this person.

fru2006 - email: complaints@magnet.ie - that gets directly to a manager... I had my issue dealt with that way very efficiently....

    Hi chazbat1:

The problem SOLVED....Magnet called me, the guy was very helpful and friendly. We have magnet internet now. This is my internet speed in upstairs which is little-bit far away from the modem: 38-40Mb/s for download, 14-15Mb/s for upload.

And downstairs which is close to the modem: 50Mb/s for download, 15-16Mb/s for upload. So I am happy. Thanks Magnet, now I can work online.
