Have had to turn it on and off a few times the past few days before it works, does it mean that the battery is wearing out?

Assuming it is supposed to be red rather than pink, it is supposed to mean less than 10% charge in the battery. If it constantly or almost constantly red despite charging, I'd say the battery is probably on its last legs.
