Hi everyone, so far there is loads of lx3 vs s90 discussions but nothing about using lx3 (or perhaps lx5 if you got one already).

I bet there is a few people out there that love lx3 as much as i do. After i got it my lx3, D40 is collecting dust most of the days as i just don't feel like bringing it everywhere with me anymore. I've been having so much fun with this by now so i decided it wouldn't hert to get some extras for it, a fisheye and a few filters. Does anyone know a good place to get them from?

P.S if anyone has been lucky enougf to see or even handly an lx5 would be great to hear from

I've been buying bits on ebay mainly - the lens hood / filter holder is far cheaper if you get a knock version than the official one. I've gotten a step up ring for the filter holder too so I can use the same filters on the lx3 as on my dslr - looks a bit stupid but for a good filter it's worth spending the cash on a good one rather than two **** ones. Love the camera - if it did shallow focus it'd be amazing.

Got all accessories for my LX3 from ebay :) Though all I have for it is a knock off brown 'leather' look case and a voigtlander 21mm viewfinder. Gorilla pod also.

Viewfinder is handy for bright conditions, but I find it don't use it as much as I thought I would so far. Just makes carrying the camera a bit unwieldy.

I presume you have come across this website already - lots of interesting accessories featured on it.

I was going to get an LX3. I have a Canon 40D and want something smaller. Can you fit in in a pocket handy enough? Is it worth waiting for the LX5, or a cheap LX3?

It's not quite pocket sized. Lens doesn't retract enough. Coat pocket no problem. Or case attached to belt. Canon S90 more of a pocket camera.
LX5 seems very similar, but going to 90mm equivalent instead of 60mm, Depends on your shooting style. I went for a second hand LX3 a while ago, with new model might be a good time to buy second hand.

well... it depends. i was out this weekend in C-on-Shannon for my friends 21st and brought the camera out Fri and Sat, pub, club, houseparty... super slouch jeans pocket does the job perfect, just make sure to tighten up your belt as the camera isn't light :) i find it no problem that the zoom is short as i use it for portraits and macro most.

Is it just me or does anyone else find that the LX3's noise handling is crap above ISO200?

I've been using it for a month and have been noticing the same. when iso is above 200-400 it gets quite nosy.

Definitely. I try to keep at 80-100 most of the time, hence the gorilla pod. I will use it up to 400 if its just a grab shot. I think it is a drawback of all small sensor cameras, although some might be a little better than others.

Good to know... I don't know too much about modern digital compacts but I thought the noise handling would be decent at least up to ISO400... unfortunatley not.

hi i know this is slightly off topic but rather then starting a new thread someone hear might know.

I'm going to pick up a lumix still undecided about what model , but i'm heading to the states next week and they seem to be a fair bit cheaper over there so I could get a better model for the same money, I'm just wondering what voltage they use to charge i.e will i be able to charge it here as I imagine they woulndt charge off a usb.

Come with a charger which you slot battery into. Two of them in the house (LX3 and FS10) and both say input 110V-240V 50/60Hz 0.2A. So you might be in luck with an adapter (or just replace the power lead that plugs in to it, standard figure of 8 type)

I bought my Lx3 over there. Saved about €200 but the exchange rate was good back then. No need to worry about the voltage, the charger can handle uk voltage, just get a plug converter.

TBH, mine rarely gets used. I just cant handle a compacts speed/restictions/IQ/DOF compered to a DSLR...even using a top of the class compact. There are very few situations where I cant/wouldn't bring my DSLR so it makes having a compact redundant for me.

Thanks for the replies lads, thats put my mind at ease, even though the currency isnt as good as it was theres still great savings to be made over there.

I'm not into photography enough to buy a DSLR tbh, i just want a good compact camera with good zoom and at least 720p recording for concerts mostly and the lumix's seem to be getting fairly god reviews.

    Thanks again.

The zoom capabilities on the LX3 aren't great... it's along the lines of something like 18-35mm on a DSLR with a 1.6 crop. It's moreso a wideangle camera best suited to things like street photography. I wouldn't recommend it for concerts.

    What price?
I had a Canon S90, sold it to help finance my first Dslr a few years back.
Would like to get a good compact again.
