Hi. What are wedding cakes made of nowadays? I understand it is now also common to have a different layer per tier?

    Any suggestions?

We were at a wedding recently and they had a rocky road wedding cake.

It was class, and I don't really do cakes.

    Biscuit Cake

Carrot Cake with an Orange Buttercream filling

    Lemon and Poppyseed cake

    What ever flavours you want!!!!

But cupcakes are a really popular option nowadays!

We are having choc biscuit/rocky road as bottom layer, choc sponge middle, vanilla sponge top tier and then a small separate fruit cake for the older people who actually like it :)

Tiffin (choc bisc/rocky road), chocolate with ganache, sponge of different flavors with flavored buttercream filling... Red Velvet Cake...Anything at all. The cupcake/minicakes towers were very popular last year. This year the demand is not that high.

tiffin makes a great base tier for the wedding cake as its solid.
try stay clear off coconut or pineapple flavoured sponge as its not to everyones taste.
for my three tier im doing bottom- tiffin middle, raspberry buttercreme sponge, top (smallest) wedding fruit cake (for the traditionalists)

    choose whats good for you.
    taste out all the flavours

Chocolate, Chocolate Biscuit Cake, Madeira, Lemon, and a lot of people like to get the smallest tier in fruit cake, for the sake of tradition and for the few people who genuinely want to eat it.

Cupcakes are still very popular, I have found that people who are having more casual or smaller weddings are going for these a lot, most popular flavours I find are Vanilla, Lemon and Chocolate.

I make cakes and in general people don't go for too elaborately flavoured cake. Like Spadina I find that in order the most popular cakes are chocolate, choc biscuit, vanilla sponge, lemon sponge. Top tier sometimes is fruit but not always.

    Already have mine planned :D

top tier - Fruit (smallest, just for the sake of tradition)
second tier - Carrot cake with cream cheese frosting
third tier - Chocolate cake with chocolate fudge buttercream :D
Fourth tier - Lemon sponge with lemon buttercream
Fifth tier - Chocolate biscuit cake

I've often made cakes for firends so I may as well make my own :D
