Daily Mirror staff must not have traveled by Iarnrod Eireann for some time.

Article on Larry Murphy taking the train to Cork depicts MK3 coaches and DVT. :p

That headline puts me in mind of the joke about the Sexy Texan who burnt himself.......enough of that. Anyway at least he took the train instead of the State sending him to Cork in the Government jet with some of the other criminals. :D

Gaurantee he had a Dept of SW travel warrant/free travel pass.

He should be entitled to it,

Who will want to employ or have anything to do with him?

He is as good as having a permanent disability.

He also has the unlimited use of unmarked Garda cars. :p

Why would he be entitled to free travel? Other convicts are not entitled to it without having some valid disability or proscribed illness!

I have personally had to give customers tickets payed for with Dept of SW travel warrants issued from pretty much every prison in the country.

I'm not sure if this thread in good taste and am inclined to close it.

Why would you say this thread is in bad taste? I would have said it was in pretty bad taste to follow a person around the country like a pack of wolves baying for blood just because he decides to take a Public train.

Maybe that's where our opinions differ.

afaik that is one travel warrant they are entitled to to get them home from prison. Their journey to prison will usually also have been taken care of only by a different government department.

When that single journey warrant is gone they must fend for themselves as far as paying for public transport goes.

Most of them will go to the local Dept of SW office and beg for another warrant at this stage, usually claiming it's for an 'appointment' or somesuch.

These things are handed out like flyers about a car boot sale.

Afaik the department of social protection does not hand out these travel warrants but they can be issued by community welfare officers in exceptional circumstances.

I was wondering when that term would pop up in this thread...

You're probably right because i think i mixed it up with a HSE warrant. I have one of those right in front of me now and this will probably be the first of many i'll see this week.

After what he was convicted of doing, and likely also did as well beforehand, the fact that he got out of jail - alive - after doing only 10 years, is "in bad taste."

I'd go so far as to say that such a mockery of justice in the worst taste of all. Media is right to follow this vile, dangerous sociopath around so that people can protect themselves.

If this man is to be given a Social Welfare travel pass, for once I would support that it would be some kind of a registered "smart card" so all his movements can be monitored.

But the poor man. Don't you see he's the real victim. He was let down by the system and ........blah blah blah, *pander to liberals to give someone a job*.

This guy should still be in prison serving the sentence he was given. The criminal justice system in this country is an absolute joke.

I'd be inclined to agree. I don't see how this discussion will ever relate solely to Commuting & Transport. Larry Murphy threads are being closed wholesale across boards.ie. I don't think we want this thread becoming a magnet for ranters and ravers.

    Thread closed.
