I just came across this on the GRA website, it is nothing short of hilarious now reading the document that waxes lyrical about our mature global economy that would need all this extra housing, infrastructure, etc.

It was all built on the grandest back slapping "aren't we all just great" exercise of them all, namely Social Partnership, and the illusion that somehow we were going to be different when we blew ourselves a property bubble.

"Dramatic changes are already taking place in the level and composition of Ireland’s population and in the global market which present significant opportunities and challenges. A large increase in population is expected in the coming years, which while representing opportunities for Ireland will put further pressure on services, infrastructure and the environment. This and other changes make a compelling case for taking a longer-term view to policy analysis, formulation and implementation.
The Government and the Social Partners accept that to achieve the NESC Vision of Ireland requires a longer-term strategic planning perspective, which, in turn, warrants a longer-term partnership framework. Thus a ten-year framework has been agreed with the Social Partners."

Just have a look at this as Jeremy Beadle used to say... Sounds great doesn't it?!?!? Only for it was all based on pure and utter bullsh*t...
