    Hi,

The sound is gone from my UPC box. On everything - the channels, the radio and even the recordings.

It happen about 2 1/2 hours ago - I was recording something onto the DVD recorder (while watching a DVD) and it recorded the moment the sound went off - a flicker of light and a UPC menu (maybe the guide) was like ghost image in the background.

The TV is fine. I checked it with a DVD and the recording I had been doing.

I called UPC and he went through some checks like resetting to factory mode, checking the scart connections, etc., but nothing worked.

I have to wait until Tuesday for a technician.

I wouldn't mind but I was looking forward to Pillars of the Earth tonight.

Does anybody have any ideas on what might be wrong?

    Thanks.

Probably the Scart lead. Make sure it's plugged in firmly at both ends.

    Cheers though.

99% of the time its the scart slightly out of place. Have you tried a different scart lead in another socket on the tv. Is the box volume on full

    Yes to all.

I tried those before calling UPC and he had me do it again.

Sorry to ask the obvious question but is the volume on the UPC box turned up? That caught me out once as I usually have it turned up fully but for some reason it ended up turned right down...

Yes it is. I also tried that before phoning them and they also had me try it again.

In fact, can somebody tell me how to reset the remote, so that - in UPC mode - the volume buttons will control the TV volume rather than the box volume?

The UPC guy had me change the remote settings when having me check the "internal" audio.

    Cheers.

If all else fails, unplug from the mains, wait for a minute, plug back in again, wait another minute, switch on.

Im guessing considering they have already called UPC and this is pretty much the only piece of tech support they are able to give over the phone, they have probably already tried this! :p

Unplugging does resolve a lot of issues with the box tho. I should know; I seem to be doing it every other day...
