    Hi,

I am in Galway and need to replumb my wholehouse. Costing 2000 only for the lenghts of copper. Anyone worked with polyplumb or an alternative and know how good it is? Where can I buy the pipes an fittings?
Heard someone that its ok if you use copper the first few metres from tank the run the lines down the house with this?

    All help[ appreciated,

    Thanks

    why polybum? its metric

there are 2 trains of thought in the plumbing world: those who swear by copper only and the rest

I use qualplex with the proviso that there are no joints below ground and I lag all buried pipes to allow for expansion.

Ur friend was on the juice, copper needs to be used initially from any heat source as there is a limit of 85C on most no copper stuff

Polyplumb is fine for oil and gas fired systems, copper should be used for the first metre at the boiler then u can switch to polyplumb.

I would never use polyplumb on any solid fuel systems as the heat is uncontrollable.

I would have thought u could get polyplumb down south, however most well known plumbing suppliers or building suppliers up north should have it. Don't get HEP pipe and fittings they are crap IMO.

Polyplumb works well but as advised it is metric..

John geest seems to be very good amoungst plumbers.

Have not seen any problems with barrier pex

Stay away from pushfit imo except if your going with John Geest

John Guest "speedfit" is good but it's for the DIY man.

I've never seen a qualified plumber use it instead of polyplumb. A few years ago I would have used it for coming up to radiators because it's White and clean looking because I would never bring grey polyplumb up to a radiator it looks terrible and at that time I didn't trust pushing copper pipe onto polyplumb fittings. Now I do and there's no problems with it so long as the copper is clean and in good condition.

Polyplumb fittings are pernament fittings whereas speedfit are made
to be removed easily which is dangerous because anyone can do it if u don't use a surclip to stop it.

The only people I see using speedfit is DIY men, electricians thinking they are plumbers and plumbing an electric shower etc. My wholesaler doesn't even stock it and I had to order in a bundle when I did want it.

My plumber used a mixture of JG speedfit ( 1/2 inch Irish ) and CorePex in my recently built house
I want to reroute 2 of the JG Speedfit pipes which means I will have to extend them a bit
My problem is I can't find a supplier of either the pipe or fittings, so I want to connect CorePex to the JG Speedfit
I know the 15mm fitting won't work with the 1/2 inch pipe but are the 15mm inserts compatible
I was thinking of using a compression fitting because I can't source the 1/2 inch JG Speedfit fittings but where do I get 1/2 inch copper olives as recommended for pex pipe
The builder providers around me stock these Easiplumb push fit fittings, can these be used with JG Speedfit and CorePex, there are also Easiplumb inserts, are there ok to use

Sorry for all the questions, I want to make sure the joints are good as one of the pipes is the mains water supply to the tank and runs through the attic ( a leak was go unnoticed and be nasty )

John Geest is done by Heatmerchants. Its also done by Excel industries in Coolmine blanchardstown dublin.

I cannot advise you on the corepex however I would suggest if your really worried about a leak do one of 2 things

    1. Have a professional plumber do it

    2. Keep an eye on your work for a week or so afterwords.

generally once you follow all the rules you should have no trouble if your supplier of the fittings is worth there salt they will give you adaptors to transfer to and from. All you need to know if its metric or imperial your going onto which you clearly do.
