nice to see they're not all villians :D
Down in Castlehyde a couple of years ago the groundskeeper was feeding a Fox to the point that he would aproach people looking for food...

anyone ever see that russian experiment breeding foxes, a few scientists went to a fox fur farm and selected the quietest foxes for a breeding programme ones like the fella in the video, within 4 or 5 generations they were like dogs wagging their tails, barking, even their color and markings started to change so they'd be more apealing to humans...

sorry for bringing ye down but its that kind of fox that did the damage over in england. by that i mean a fox that is no longer afraid of human contact and expects to be fed by humans.
even if you are not into shooting the best thing you could do for the fox is scare him off and let him be wild, because i for one would not take a second thought in shooting it as it ran towards me expecting to be fed

    nice video tho
again sorry for the negativity :D

    Your quite rite poulo.
What will happen these foxes if they stop feeding them?
Will they lose instinct on how to hunt?

They will not loose their hunting instinct they will just get used to humans and not see them as a threat, and like what happened in england with the 2 little girls the fox could start to see small children as prey as he is no longer afraid of people. you just dont know what to expect when you are dealing with a wild animal and inviting them to be around humans by giving them food is inviting trouble.

I agree with poulo great video but shoot it or scare it away, feeding it is the wrong thing to do

Not very sporting shooting something as defenseless as a tame fox (like the fox in the video).

But thats exactly the problem, a "tame" fox who will approach humans is still a wild animal capable of hurting or killing a child. scaring that fella away would have been the thing to do

Yeah but the big differance there my friend is the domestic dog has been brought up around people and relys on them for their food and to be looked after. there is a big differance between a dog and a fox

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 14,670 ✭✭✭✭Wolfe Tone

Yeah but to say that it is capable of hurting or killing a child is hyperbole to the extreme.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,615 ✭✭✭kildare.17hmr

    How so??

If there was a fox in your garden would you send your kid out to feed it????

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 14,670 ✭✭✭✭Wolfe Tone

How often does a fox attack and kill a child?

I would go with the child. Although I would say my dog would scare it away.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,615 ✭✭✭kildare.17hmr

Thankfully we dont have the problem in this country, yet, but if people treat them like pets we will have a problem eventually.

each to there own but id be runnin him and not teachin the kids it was ok to approach the fox because thats exactly what he will do next time he sees one and what if your not around??

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 14,670 ✭✭✭✭Wolfe Tone

Most likely the fox would run away. I would be more wary about strange dogs than foxes tbh.

yeah probably but that doesnt take away from the fact that they are dangrous, the fact that you said youd go out with the child to feed it means you wouldnt trust it..

id also be wiery of strange dogs

More like I would like to see it for myself! :L

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,616 ✭✭✭FISMA

    Feargal,

Why don't you run up to him and catch his tail or rub his belly?

We'll see how tame he is then.

    :)

so id be right in thinking you have no experience of foxes then?

Not tame ones like in the OP no. They normally run a mile when I see them.

For some reason over-reaction springs to my mind. Step back from the red top english rags that infest this country and gain some perspective. It's a fox, not a flippin lion.

I've said it before, i'll say it again!

Should be only used as Bog Roll in an emergency!

I dont see an over reaction, Im well aware its only a fox and im mearly pointin out the fact that its a wild animal and should be treated as such

If you corner a wild animal it will attack, generally under any other circumstances it will run like the clappers.
