Sounds like a ridiculous idea to me. Idea is to encourage attacking football but exactly how would this help? Teams will now just play for 90min draw and could actually win the match in a penalty shoot out the
Sepp Blatter says Fifa is considering scrapping draws at the group stage of future World Cup finals by introducing penalty shoot-outs after 90 minutes.
President of world football's governing body, Blatter is known for voicing his radical ideas on changing the game.
He wants to put an end to defence-minded teams playing to get a draw.
"If there is no winner at the end of 90 minutes of play, we would proceed directly to penalty kicks," he told German magazine Focus.
"We are considering doing away with draws in the first round ...and also ending extra-time play."

    Stupid, stupid idea.

Why don't FIFA concentrate on the actual problems with modern football?

Because that would first involve getting rid of the biggest problem - Blatter . .

Sure, great idea. While we're at it, we should probably save a lot of energy and just introduce a lottery system to decide the winners of the World Cup.

Anyone want to re-visit my 4 points for a win to get more attacking in the group stages proposal?

The problem is that currently there is still too much incentive to play for the draw, especially with only three group games.

Would you prefer the penalty shoot-out after 90 mins or 4 points for a win?

It was a poor world cup overall, but still had some great games in the group stages. There's been great world cups in the past with the same format and there will be great world cups in the future.

Seems that everyone just wants to make sure the top teams win the games. The smaller teams who might make the match boring to view due to their defensiveness are entitled to play the way they do. Its the only chance they have. Good defending is as much part of the game as good attacking.

Imagine a 4-3 last minute game where the other team grab a dramatic goal to make it 4-4!all the joy and fun would be ruined by a stupid penalty shoot-out!What if a team still plays for 0-0 and is bombarded but they decide to chance their luck at a peno shootout,it would be a kick in the teeth for the dominant team as instead of losing 2 points they would lose 3!We all know Blatter wants to be remembered as a great leader etc...but this is taking the biscuit!

There has not actually been a great World Cup under this format. 32 teams and 8 groups has led to poor tournaments. Group stages are only good when there are at least 3 and preferably 4 good teams in there.

The European Championships have been much better in the past 20 years because there are normally 2-3 good teams in a group. Now of course that will change in 2016.

Edit: As for the penalties idea, it is nonsense. It will suit teams that already play for the draw.
