Seems that we need a bit of a guide on editing the threads like the 1000milers and Best of ones. Any explanations that may have appeared in those threads probably get lost somewhere after the 100th page so I'l have a go at explaining it here.

I'm sure I've not explained it properly for everyone in this, but let us know what doesn't make sense...

1000 mile thread

First thing to do is to delete the
and [/ quote] tags from the beginning and end of the message, if you don't do this then the next person will not be able to edit the table to add their entry.
Name|Category|Running miles|1000 Mile Completion Date]
T Runner|M35|1001.7 |21-4-10
Condo131|M55|1006.99|24-4-10
Slogger Jogger|M40|1002|29-4-10
eliwallach|M39|992.2
Abhainn|M35|988.1 miles
Gringo78|M|954
Then look for your name in the list and update just the numbers relating you your mileage. This table does not automajically sort itself so you will need to cut and paste your line and manually move it up the list to where your new mileage fits you in the table.

If this is your first entry in the table then just add the line for yourself where appropriate in the list:
Charlie Reid|Scot|500miles

Do not edit or delete the [ table] or [/ table] tags at the beginning and end of the message or things will get properly messed up, just leave them as they are.

Best of 20XX

This one is a bit trickier as it contains multiple tables and does automatic sorting of the tables as well. Again delete the [ quote] and [/ quote] tags at the beginning and end of the message.

Then you have to search through the list for the distance you are wanting to enter a time for. If you already exist in the table for that distance then just edit the time, date and race details without deleting the | characters. You do not need to change the order of the lines in the table as it will be done for you when the table is displayed.
3 miles

Name|Time|Cat|Date|Where
robinph|17:33|M35|13/01/10|Raheny Winter League
christeb|18.10|Sexy|13/01/10|Raheny Winter League
foleyalan|18:51|M31|13/01/10|Raheny Winter League
If you are adding yourself as a new entry for that distance then again it's probably easiest to just copy and paste the entry for the last person in that table and add it in before the closing [/ table] tag. Then change the details to your own name and race time etc. Again you don't need to worry about the ordering of the list.

*Damn [ code] tags don't quite work as they should so please bear with me whilst I re-edit the layout*

Any idea what's going on with the simple tables? They don't work in preview, and tables that were previously showing correctly now appear messed up, such as this one. Boards Inc issues?

Not sure on that one, for some reason it's not formatting known working code correctly when I copy and paste it into editing a post on that thread. I have noticed that with the Best Of thread it has sometimes doesn't format quite right when you've first hit the reply button, but does once you reload the thread. I think the Boards.ie hamsters just get briefly overworked with the amount of code they have to parse for that one message.
