How many contact hours would you have with students for, say, a FETAC Level 5 module worth 1 credit? Would this vary depending on the student profile, on the college's/provider's timetabling demands, or is it a set number of hours? Would a module typically be taught over one term/semester, over the full academic year, or intensively over a shorter time block, or will this also depend on the type of module? I'm thinking about common modules like Communications, or more specialised ones like Intercultural studies. Thanks for any insight!

Generally you would have 3 hours per week over the year, per module at level 5. It can vary slightly, some modules can be done in 2 hours, but mostly it would be 3.

It really depends on your provider, and if the module is part of a full-time award through the PLC sector or through a part-time programme.

PLC sector usually allow 80 hours per module.
Part-time programmes i.e. BTEI allow between 30 and 80 hours depending on the module and the student cohert. (Most allow between 36 & 45). However, there is always the option to build in more time for weaker students.
Skillvec (partnership between HSE & VEC) allow 20 hours per module!!
    Private providers vary.

    Cheers

Under the new Common Awards Scheme all FETAC modules at Level 5 will be worth 15 credits and FETAC state that 1 credit is equal to 15 guided learning hours so this is a good starting point in determining the amount of time devoted to a module.
