What to buy?

Hi,
Any advice?
Im a 27 year old male. Student but had savings when i deciced to go back.
Stupidly sold my lovely 406 coupe a year ago for a banger car which is now probably unsafe aswell as depressing me...

So i want something newer.

A few mates have new model 5 series beemers. I love em. Prob wouldnt get it for under 10keuro tho which is about my limit. I havent fully settled on a limit as im even still decided wheterh to persist with my banger car. It is bad bad bad though. Im embarressed to be seen in it now, and its just not worth it. It is not safe even though its nct'ed

Then id be thinking of an E220 about 2002 which is second newest model?
Or maybe an S60 - but prob not.
I like Audi's but i dont think id buy one now

What do you all think?
Anything even random hits would be great?
I would spin to the uk if i spotted a minter...

What do you think of the Alfa 159?
Its a brilliant car and not as flamboyant as the rest but still very interesting...

I do like the Alfa to look at but i dont really think id buy one.

And i really like the interior of the Merc...
Is 113k miles a lot for a 7 year old diesel merc?

They all seem to be 100k or so...

Op have you looked on car zone there are several nice E60 5 series for just under 10k and one 05. I cant believe how cheap they have become! change the standard bumper for an msport one, and you have one damn good, good looking car.

They're not diesel though as far as i can see, plus those beemers are typically bottom speced, whereas the mercs *can* be top spec'ed. I love the merc interior

DrNic, why do you want a diesel, are you doing high mileage? would you drive your car for another year or so, at which point you will be able to afford the car you want? what is dangerous about your current car?

I dont know to be honest, currently i do very little mileage.
I probably would buy a diesel though...

My car currently feels very bad on the road. Compared to a work jeep i've been driving the last few weeks its a fanta can.

It just depresses me to look at it, and drive it. So it will be gone, if i can find a good replacement for under 10k

Does anyone know what kind of questions i should be asking if i ring about the Merc. Anythings in particular that goes wrong with Mercs?

imho there is absolutely no point in going for a diesel unless, you do high mileage, they cost more to buy and more can go wrong than with the petrol equivalent. atleast thats my understanding from the bmw's...

Its a bit skangerish sticking AMG badges on a 1.8l but apart from that it looks very nice. Very neat interior.

If I was to buy it I'ld sell/exchange the AMG alloys and exhaust for normal ones and save the disappointment of trying to explain no its not an AMG, its actually a 1.8l...

Yep - I was even thinking that myself. Drop the AMG tag(maybe) and drop the dodgy alloys(for sure) and there's a very nice car underneath...
