Audi are about to launch a new sporty super mini, the A1 the compete with the Mini, Alpha Mito etc...

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Audi_A1

Would you buy and do you think it will trump the Mini, and sell truck loads like the Mini did since 1999?

It will depending on how it compares in terms of pricing. Any info on that released yet?

Looks sweet, duno about it being a mini beater. Maybe with an S1 version to compete with the Cooper S, or even an RS1... Imagine.

There is a 1.4 TFSI Engine 120.7 bhp 7 speed, which I have read is ment to be the Cooper S challenger!

AFAIK it's available in mid-September for €18k or so.

Personally I much prefer the Citroen DS3 - much more stylish looking.

Actually it starts at €18,900 for the 1.2TSI. Price list is available on Audi.ie
    http://www.audi.ie/etc/medialib/ngw/ie/misc.Par.0026.File.pdf/pricelist.pdf

I'm surprised you'd start a thread about it and then state that pricing wasn't available here without doing the barest bit of research.

It's Alfa, not Alpha. It's in the second paragraph of the Wikipedia article you linked to above.

There were only about 300 MINIs sold last year, and probably only 400 this year, so it's not a massive market. The Mito sold 50 last year and will probably do the same this year.

I expect it to be a lovely car and it will hopefully give people who aspire to an Audi an earlier chance to be an owner, but I don't see it toppling the Golf or Focus any time soon.

It's possible that the market for toy/fun cars has shrank so much at the moment it'll dull the impact of this new car, but hopefully it'll grow in sales and popularity as we come further out of recession.

Geees Sorry, The Irish Audi website had'nt the A1 prices up last night, when I heard about it on TV. Hence why I used the UK site!

Well Im a man of Science, so Alpha comes more natural then Alfa! lol

I've just Googled it. Prices have been announced since at least August 5th, but general guidelines have been available since June.

    Chauffe, Marcel, chauffe!

Tall order to call it a MINI beater already ;)

Looking forward to some multi-tests though of the fast little momos: Cooper S vs A1 vs 500 Abarth and even vs Saab 9 2. Did I leave any out?

Is the 1.4 TFSI 125HP for € 21,300 the hottest version coming?

I'd probably put in the Polo GTI, Citroen DS3, Corsa OPC

A new BMW under 20k, that will be the day!

If it's lined up to compete with the A1, it'll have to be.

Why do you think they wouldn't?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 685 ✭✭✭jock101

Well BMW tend to make RWD cars, I can see them making one for 18k+ or a FWD one! With the current 1 Series 3 door hatch going for 26-27k OTR. I would say they will leave the entry model BMW at that, to keep BMW as a premium brand name!

    Or maybe a M0?
    Sounds stupid though M0....
But what kind of a monster would it be!! Throw in 4wd and you'll have yourself a rally car!
