Copper on concrete = corrosion?

    Will copper pipe corrode as a result of being in direct contact with concrete? Does there need to be water in the equation? Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

    Don't wish to be the bearer of bad news but I had to replace a full plumbing (heating and domestic) system after suffering a series of leaks that started about six years ago. I fixed the first few leaks as they happened but new ones just kept appearing. Original copper piping was put in concrete with no protection and started to corode (tiny little fissures appeared in the piping) after about 20 years.

    Concrete will eat through copper even if it's dry. Copper in concrete should be wrapped or coated.

    Yes it will eventually corrode. It all depends I was told on the strength of the mix.

    This is why gas copper pipe is coated.. But to be honest i think the regulations have since changed not even allowing this...
