    Wow, that's a massive question!

What kind of fuzz? That kind of creamy nice fuzz? Harsh trebley fuzz? 'Velcro fuzz'? Self-oscillation?

There is no best fuzz! I like my Big Muff for heavy bassy fuzz, I played my friend's Fuzz Factory the other day which I loved for velcro fuzz and self oscillation.

Ideally I'd like a Dwarfcraft Devices The Great Destroyer, a Watson Superfuzz/Shin Ei Companion Fuzz, a Devi Ever Shoegazer, and a Fuzz Factory... All bases covered?

I really did open the can of worms there didnt I?!

I suppose a fuzz that can do heavy but also could be dialled back to do bluesy?

I love my Fuzz Factory, it does it all and more than any other fuzz pedal (as far as I'm concerned).

I like my FF, it's very versatile and "interesting", but it's a bit treble-y. I'd think the Little Big Muff is a bit more usable for a gig imho.

A fuzz factory is a very limited option I think. Good at what it does, but doesn't do it all, not nearly.

my DIY germanium fuzz face,is in my opinion the best fuzz ever made!
but then again I am biased :o

The FF is incredibly versatile, it does the wild oscillation (verging on moogerfooger territory) thing very well, sure, but turn off the stab and it's as good as any other fuzz. I compensate for the trebility by switching to neck pup or dropping the tone, but I don't do that often, I like it nasty :pac:

This looks the business, authentic, like a WWII landmine -- have you got any sound clips?

One of the Devi double pedals might be pretty nice(or just two seperates since they're about the same price). The Shoegazer is kind of fun but you could probably do better.

There are more usable fuzzes though too. The Musket Fuzz looks awesome.

That question is just an opening into a whole world of madness! I love it!

    Biased at 4.5V?

I'd have to agree with a Germ Fuzz Face for what the OP asked although I prefer the handiness and reliability of silicon. There's a guy selling some really nice clones on Adverts, out of them this one would be my recommendation:.

Can't go wrong with that sort of quality for €70.

Next chance I get, I'm gonna try a Big Muff and already tried the Dallas Arbiter Fuzz Face, its out of my price range but sounds great. That DIY one looks class.

I'd seriously recommend that DIY one, it looks as well built if not better than any of the boutique pedals. Much better than a new Dallas Arbiter one. I love Big Muffs myself but not sure if it'd suit what you describe, it doesn't really do dialled back and bluesy imho. If you are trying one try the new tone wicker one rather than the big silver NYC.

I would have bought that fuzz (or maybe the Meathead he has) on adverts ages ago if I didn't make my own.

In that case I might just use the Muff for heavy sh!t and use an MXR Distortion + with the output high but the distortion low for blues.

There are way too many different types of fuzz to pick a best one. I have 4 of them and each one does something totally different. For a little fuzzy boost I have a Dunlop/MXR JH-2 Classic Fuzz, nice and gentle, great for putting a bit fo an edge on chords. For heavier sounds a big muff, at low settings I think it can do some heavy blues. Getting crazier noises I have the Danelectro French Toast, which is like a Fender Blender and can make some great noise, and a Devi Ever BIT, which is just crazy, and too loud past about 1 on the volume knob :D

Picking a favourite is tough, but the French Toast wins, its surprisingly versatile, does a good muff impression and has some outrageous sounds if you put a bit of time into messing with it. Its not subtle though.

For blues, I'd go with a fuzz face, the JH-2 has a similar sound and its probably just right for that.

Oooh, how do you like the Bit, landsleaving?

For what it's worth the French Toast is a copy the Foxx Tone Machine.

I don't think you'd go too wrong with the Muff and Distortion + combo.

Personally for Fuzz I've got a Green Russian Muff V1 (civil war spec), DIY stripped down Violet Ram's head muff (no tone or gain recovery stage) a DIY Meathead and a DIY Fuzz Face with AC128s. Next up is a Tone Machine clone once I get around to ordering a pcb for it.

It's a lot of fun, some really unusual sounds. It seeems to be more influenced by the way you play than anything else I've tried, hit the string hard and its like a chainsaw, soft and you get those electronic-y sounds it gets its name from, very dynamic. It's also incredibly loud, even at its lowest setting. It takes some getting used to and its not exactly versatile, but it is totally unlike anything else, even other fuzz pedals, so I'm a fan.

BYOC offer a very nice sounding fuzz. It's quite cheap too although this may have something to do with the fact that it's a self assembly job. Make sure you check out the comparison video, that's what sold it for me! Well, that and I noticed one on the legendary Steve Steven's pedal board.. :D
